Alabote Sport Fishing Charter’s is a sport fishing company specialized on trolling for big game species which operates at Ponta Delgada, island of São Miguel (Azores archipelago) since 1998. The location of the Azores in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and their numerous submarine banks make them one of the best locations in the world to find a great abundance of fish especially of large big game

species like blue marlin, white marlin, spearfish, bluefin tuna, bigeye tuna, longfin tuna, yellowfin tuna, mako shark and swordfish. The “Alabote” is a 32′ Bayliner Explorer 3270 built in the USA completely reconstructed for fishing. Our team is composed by a very experienced captain plus two deck mates (one of them marine biologist), all natives from the island that have been fishing in the Azores throughout their lifes. Happy Eric with one of the two bigeyes hooked up on a double before yesterday (215 pounds).

As we only fished a half-day, we only had time to fish close to the shore. Despite having bait all over the place on the drop off, the birds and tuna activity has been slower around here compared to the banks offshore. The fish is here but just harder to located. Anyway, we got a nice surprise with a double hook up pulling the hook on one after a short fight and catching this 215 pounder just before heading home for lunch!

Fish caught on a Ahi head paired with a Ahi tail from WolfPack Tackle!

What a way to ended up the trip with John, Mike and Devin going 2 on 5 on giant bigeyes over the last two days of fishing.

Beautiful weather with the activity slowing down compared to the previous days but we knew the fish was there. We kept pounding the area waiting for the right opportunity and in both days we manage to capitalize at the right time. In one day we had 3 bites at the same time losing 2 and catching Mike a nice 200 pounds ish bigeye!
The best was reserved for the final day where we had the right opportunity to cast to a giant bigeye tuna feed. The fish came up right by the boat and Devin got tight right away as well as John on the very next cast! We knew they were all big fish but there was definitely some giants in the mix. We could never stop John’s fish that took almost all the line on his Stella before breaking off but after and incredible 1h45 fight we got the other to the gaff! What a BEAST! 78x56 inches estimated at 300+ pounds!

What a pleasure to have these guys on board fishing with jigging and spinning gear. So far this year the bigeyes are still not showing at the surface as they used to but with persistence we always get the right opportunities.
Congratulations again guys on such a magnificent bigeye. See you guys next year!

Stay tuned as we will organise more pictures from the trip to post it in the next few days 💪

Crazy last two days with John, Mike and Devin going on 7 from 13 (?!) on bigeye tuna (100 to 180 pounds).

Great to see that the bigeyes keep coming to surface to feed very aggressively on mackerel! On the first day we caught the smaller fishes of the trip so far. We started with a surprise triple header and then a quadruple header after seeing all the birds packed up!
Today we had the pleasure to witness some GREAT bigeye tuna feeds at the surface which ended up in catching some bigger fish on jigging and popping rods. Had a bunch of fish pulling the hooks on the stick baits but damn, those bites were AMAZING!
The teasers have been completely destroyed as well. At some point we were trolling only teasers and as soon as the bigeyes show up there, the guys put stick bait close to it and BOOM, FISH ON! Just like bait&switch for marlin. INCREDIBLE, can’t wait for more!

Finally some time to catch up with the reports of the last 3.5 days of tuna fishing going on 10 for 12 on bigeye tunas!
Better fishing on the last 2 days catching 4 bigeyes on each day with some really CRAZY teaser action. We should definitely put some hooks on those teasers!

Water is getting warmer out there and finally we seen fish feeding at the surface with birds. Awesome action!

Steph and Jake had their flight home cancelled so they fished another day with us going on 3-4 on bigeye tuna (30-75 pounds) and 1-1 on spearfish (55+ pounds)!

Started the day early again with a strike on one of the shorts followed by a double of the smaller bigeyes of the day. We decided to leave the area looking for other fish and found another bigeye on very deep water with no birds at all. Other bigeyes followed the hooked fish and we tried to catch more with the jig but no luck at all. The activity stayed pretty low during the whole day and on the way in we hooked this nice spearfish!

Thank you so much for the great and fun days guys. Please give a follow to Jake’s instagram page and YouTube channel as they got some nice footage of the trip to be published soon!

Unfortunately we had a big cancellation this week due to the high numbers of flights cancelled this weekend because of the fog.
If you are around and want to fish, just shoot us a message and LET’S GOOOO! The fish is out there!!!

Report from yesterday going on 7-8 on bigeye tunas (60-90 pounds class fish) and 1-1 on a small Albacore.

We started pretty early. Roughly 20 minutes after putting the lines in we hooked up on a double of the smaller bigeyes of the day. Released one and lost the other but as the entire school as under the boat we dropped the jig and hooked&released another small one.

Lures back in and another 20 minutes later we hooked up on everything we had on the water. Wish we had that on video as we must have had more than 10 bites on the teasers. Incredible!
Again, we had the entire school under the boat and there was some really nice ones in there (200+ pounders). Damn! The commercial fleet came by us and the bigeye tuna party started with everybody catching!
In the afternoon things slowed down, the wind picked up and we only caught the first Albacore of the season.

Jake and Steph must have got some great GoPro footage under the water, so we will post it once we get it!

Picture on the way in of the only 2 bigeye we kept as they came both hooked on the gills.

Two days off now as the foggy weather did not allowed Cameron to land today to fish with us. But it looks like it will clear up on Sunday! Let’s go again!

How cool is that? Have you ever caught one? Big Mola for Peter 😂

Report of the last days with the American team and we went 10-13 on bigeye tuna (45-220 pounds class fish).

We were kind of unlucky in the two first days where we kept trying to find active fish with birds but only found them very shy and staying deep. We caught 2 from 3 bigeyes and snagged a sunfish (Mola mola)! First time ever to us, so it was kind of funny!

On the last day we changed the strategy, changed the whole spread and the results showed up catching 8 from 10 bigeyes with many other crazy bites on the teaser!

The bigeyes and the bait are out there in great numbers so everything seems lined up for another great season!

Pretty strong winds for a couple of days now, but the weather looks great for the weekend. Let’s go again pleaseeee!
