Alabote Sport Fishing Charter’s is a sport fishing company specialized on trolling for big game species which operates at Ponta Delgada, island of São Miguel (Azores archipelago) since 1998. The location of the Azores in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and their numerous submarine banks make them one of the best locations in the world to find a great abundance of fish especially of large big game species like blue marlin, white marlin, spearfish, bluefin tuna, bigeye tuna, longfin tuna, yellowfin tuna, mako shark and swordfish. The “Alabote” is a 32′ Bayliner Explorer 3270 built in the USA completely reconstructed for fishing. Our team is composed by a very experienced captain plus two deck mates (one of them marine biologist), all natives from the island that have been fishing in the Azores throughout their lifes. Another October marlin going 1-1 on blues (450 pounds).

Pretty good scenario out there yesterday marking plenty of large mackerel the whole day. We kept grinding the area and despite seeing signs of fish (oil slicks and knocked down mackerel at the surface) and could not make any fish bite. Finally when we decide to leave the best area we hooked up and released this healthy 450 for pva_fishing! Great job on the chair my friend catching his first blue marlin ever. Congrats 💪

October fishing on fire! 🔥🔥🔥

Fantastic weather yesterday and we went 2-3 on blue marlin (700 and 350 pounds).

Last minute booking and Juan and our friend Jeremy jumped onboard to try to catch their first marlin ever. We headed out to the banks and we just had to spend some time to find the bait to find the marlins.
Started with the 700 and after an epic fight, Juan brings his first marlin ever boat side! Lures back in and we hooked up a 300 that just exploded on the short left. Jeremy takes the chair and quickly brought a feisty 300 boat side. Mission accomplished!!! Before heading home we still had time for another bite, but the fish pulled the hook after short run.

Fantastic weather, plenty of bait, beautiful warm water, and marlins still around. Can’t ask for better. Fantastic end of a GREAT SEASON!!!

Literally nobody is fishing right now, so we are pretty sure the number of marlins would be way better. Fingers crossed we will have the chance to fish at least another couple of days!

Last day with the American squad yesterday and we went 3-3 on blue marlin (450, 400 and 250 pounds).

Beautiful sea conditions on the bank! We started the day releasing the smallest marlin of the day for big Steve just before lunch time! After lunch we kept grinding the area and finally found very good bait. Hooked up and released a feisty 400 for Darryl right away. Had no time to setup the whole spread because we hooked up again on the biggest fish of the day for Ismael! Another feisty fish that broke the 500lbs leader boat side!

We cannot thank enough Ismael, Darryl, Dave and big Steve for the fantastic days on board. Hope to see you all again next year for some bigeye tuna action!

Unfortunately, this might be the last day of the big game fishing season this year. Hard to stay at the dock and leave all these fish free swimming out there!!! If any of you are around or have the flexibility to come in the next days, please just shoot us a DM or email. Let’s go fishing!!!

Another nice day with the American squad going 2-3 on blue marlin (600 and 500 pounds).

Started the day seeing the commercial fleet catching small yellowfins on live bait, but we couldn’t find any willing to bite on lures. Changed the whole plan and we focused on marlin.

We arrived at the bank by lunch time and had no time to setup the whole spread because we were hooked up already. Quick fight for Darryl and we released a feisty 500 pounder in great shape. Going around the same spot we hooked up again and released a nice 600 pounder for Dave, so far his biggest fish ever! And because good things come in threes, we hooked up again a 500+ pounder for big Steve, but it was bill wrapped and pulled the hook.

Pretty good feeling out there with plenty of good bait around and all these bites happening in a short time. Zak also had a great day releasing four marlin in the NE bank. Feels like the October bite can be very good and basically there is no one to go fishing. Damn! Just jump on an airplane and let’s gooo!

Back fishing today and we went 1-1 on blue marlin (400 pounds) and got some wahoo for dinner too.

Plenty of action in the morning! Started the day with a wahoo triple header. Hooked up another one next and shortly after we hooked up a nice 400 pounder blue marlin for Ismael!
After lunch the activity slowed down but picked up again late afternoon. PLENTY of oil slicks literally everywhere but surprisingly we had no more bites. We tried to catch a yellowfin, but they were so fast at the surface that we actually never had a chance to show them our lures. Damn! Let’s go again tomorrow 💪

Report from the last 2 days fishing with the American gang and we went 2-4 on blue marlin (700, 500 pounds).

Same result on both days releasing one blue marlin and pulling the hook on another. Luckily we managed to stay connected to the largest models pulling the hook on two fish around the 300 pound mark.

Typical of October, the water is starting to cool down but the fish is still around. There is plenty of bait out there and there are reports of multiple marlins hooked up in several different spots!

Many thanks for Alfred, Kelly, Dave and Rens for fishing with us year after year. It has been 14 years straight only interrupted by the COVID. What a pleasure to fish with them! See you all next year again 🙏

We have a couple more days of fishing, but will have the boat ready on the water until the fish is gone! So if you are around, join us and let’s go fishing!

Another great day on the marlin grounds going again on 2-2 on blues (550 and 400 pounds).

Started the day close to the shore and found some tunas with the dolphins. Unfortunately, they were not in feeding mode so they stayed deep the whole time and we got no bites.
We moved out and things looked good there with plenty of bait and birds going around. Just after lunch time, we hooked up the first fish for Izzy Sekelick that released her first marlin ever after a quick fight. Welcome to the club! Lures back in the water and we hooked up again this nicer fish for Ryan Rosenbaum! The birds stayed pretty active for the rest of the afternoon. We found some skipjack tunas but haven’t raised any other marlin.

The other boats fishing on the bank also had some good bites. Good job guys!

Back to the marlin grounds today and 2-2 on blues (500 and 300 pounds).

Pretty weather in the morning and upon arrival on the bank we found some birds working on a nice pile of mackerel. We did not get any bites, but after exploring the other parts of the bank, we came back to the first spot and finally hooked up and released the first blue marlin ever for . Welcome to the blue marlin club Ryan! The wind kept getting stronger and about to leave the bank we hooked up and released a nice 500 for with happy Ryan on the leader! Some east wind coming in tomorrow so let’s see what we can do. Tomorrow is time to put the girls in action. Fingers crossed 🤞
