O Centro de Alto Rendimento (CAR) do Pocinho é promovido pelo município de Vila Nova de Foz Côa e destina-se à prática de desportos náuticos, com relevância para o remo e para a canoagem, entre outros desportos.
A sua construção foi iniciada em 2011 com comparticipações financeiras do POVT e do Município de Vila Nova de Foz Côa, representando um investimento de cerca de 8,5M €.
Foi inaugurado por Sua Excelência o Presidente da República, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, a 06/07/2016 e teve como seus primeiros ocupantes em janeiro desse mesmo ano, as equipas olímpicas de Remo da Estónia e da Suíça, nos seus treinos de preparação para os Jogos Olímpicos de 2016, no Rio de Janeiro.
O CAR assume-se já como uma referência na alta competição, tanto no plano nacional como internacional, podendo albergar até 159 atletas em instalações de topo para a prática, desfrutando de uma extraordinária vista e enquadramento paisagístico único, numa área de 8000 m2.
A par da vertente formativa e desportiva, incluindo o desporto adaptado, o CAR está preparado com todas as condições necessárias para receber diversos eventos a nível nacional ou internacional, dispondo de zona de alojamento, zona social e zona de treino.
Esta obra representa mais uma vantagem competitiva para a região, que vê a sua oferta turística e desportiva especializada crescer.
O CAR assume-se como um ponto de atração para desportistas internacionais, mas também como mais um marco de vanguarda, num país privilegiado na rota de turismo internacional de arquitetura, em pleno território classificado pela UNESCO com dois patrimónios mundiais: “Gravuras Rupestres do Vale do Côa” e “Alto Douro Vinhateiro”.

Para além disso, José Sousa sublinha que o “edifício completa muito bem as condições de água da Barragem do Pocinho. Temos uma coisa muito boa aqui que é espaço, podemos ir rio acima sem problema nenhum”, acrescentou.

“Estamos de volta ao Pocinho durante este mês, se bem me lembro o ultimo estágio que realizamos por aqui foi em 2010, mas desta vez as condições são completamente diferentes. Foi recentemente inaugurado o centro de alto rendimento, direccionado exclusivamente para a nossa modalidade. A grande qualidade deste local continua a ser o plano de água, mas a grande diferença neste momento é mesmo fora de água. Actualmente podemos combinar o que já existia de bom, a água, com uma serie de infraestruturas de topo mundial. Desde dos amplos e arquitectónicos espaços de convívio ao conforto dos quartos, passando pelo ginásio (penso do melhor que vi em toda a minha carreira) e espaços de recuperação, acabando na boa qualidade da alimentação. A autarquia e os responsáveis pela actual gestão do CAR estão a fazer um esforço para dinamizar e lançar o Pocinho como um local de excelência do treino ao nível mundial.”

A dupla olímpica de remadores portugueses, que atualmente representa o Sporting Clube de Portugal na categoria de ML2x, referiu à agência Lusa que estas duas últimas semanas de treinos, no Centro de Alto Rendimento de Remo do Pocinho (CARR), foram "um excelente contributo" para a sua preparação física e técnica, na caminhada de apuramento para as olimpíadas de 2016.

The High Performance Center of Pocinho is promoted by the municipality of Vila Nova de Foz Côa and is intended for the practice of water sports, with relevance to rowing and canoeing, among other sports.
Its construction began in 2011 with financial contributions from POVT and the Municipality of Vila Nova de Foz Côa, representing an investment of around € 8.5m.
It was inaugurated by His Excellency the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, on 06/07/2016 and had as its first occupants in January of that same year, the Olympic teams of Remo of Estonia and Switzerland, in their training of preparation for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The CAR is already a reference in high competition, both nationally and internationally, and can accommodate up to 159 athletes in top facilities for the practice, enjoying an extraordinary view and unique landscape in an area of 8000 m2.
Alongside the training and sports aspect, including adapted sport, the CAR is prepared with all the necessary conditions to receive various events at national or international level, with accommodation zone, social zone and training zone.
This work represents another competitive advantage for the region, which sees its specialized tourism and sports offer grow.
The CAR is a place of attraction for international sportsmen, but also as another landmark in a privileged country on the route of international tourism architecture, in the territory classified by UNESCO with two world heritage sites: "The Côa Rocks Engravings" and "Douro Vineyards".

José Sousa, National Technician of the Portuguese Canoeing Federation, who was recently in training at Pocinho's CAR, reveals that the team "was fascinated the very first day", since "this Center has everything inside the same building and this is half way to be exceptional”.
In addition, José Sousa points out that the "building completes very well the water conditions of the Pocinho dam. We have a very good thing here that is space, we can go upstream without any problem".

"We are back to Pocinho during this month, if I remember the last stage we did here was in 2010, but this time the conditions are completely different.
It was recently inaugurated the High-Performance Center income, directed exclusively for our modality. The great quality of this location continues to be the water plane, but the big difference at this point is even out of the water. At the moment we can combine what already existed of good, the water, with a series of infrastructures of world-wide top. From the large and architectonic living spaces to the comfort of the rooms, passing the gym (I think the best I've seen in my entire career) and recovery spaces, ending up in the good quality of food.
