Thanks to Peniche and Baleal peninsulas, surfers have much better chances of experiencing optimal offshore wind conditions. In all of Portugal, the south wind blows offshore only at these peninsulas while the north wind offers offshore conditions at Supertubos beach and the south corner of Baleal (Cantinho). Moreover, the east wind is an offshore for the most of the Portugal’s coasts.

But why an offshore wind is so desirable for surfers?

The answer lies in the fact that offshore wind creates a perfect shape of the wave, organises swell into better separated lines, and smoothes out any bumps or chop that might disrupt the wave's shape. This results in clean and organised waves that offer longer rides and allow surfers to pass closing sections and perform advanced manoeuvres.

A visual bonus of the offshore winds is the beautiful spray it creates, adding extra magic to the surfing experience.
