Hike Ribeira de Algibre 16/09/26

De zomer houdt nog even aan maar langzaam worden de ochtenden iets aangenamer en krijg ik weer helemaal zin om samen het binnenland van de Algarve in te trekken.

Op 16 september gaan we terug naar een mooie route tussen Loulé en Boliqueime: Ribeira de Algibre. Sommigen van jullie hebben deze wandeling misschien eens eerder gedaan, maar ik vind dit een mooie tocht om het wandelseizoen rustig mee te beginnen.

Nog nooit eerder meegewandeld? Dan is dit juist een fijne wandeling om voor het eerst aan te sluiten. Je hoeft niemand te kennen en je kunt ook gewoon alleen komen, onderweg ontstaat het contact meestal vanzelf.

We wandelen ongeveer 8 km over onverharde paden, afwisselend breed en smal. Een deel van de route loopt langs de Ribeira de Algibre, die in deze tijd van het jaar meestal droogstaat. Toch blijft het landschap verrassend groen. Onderweg komen we langs olijfbomen, kleine plantages, oude waterputten en stille plekjes die je vanaf de gewone wegen nooit ziet.

Het is geen moeilijke wandeling en met ongeveer 55 hoogtemeters een fijne eerste tocht na de warme zomermaanden.

Let op: bij het startpunt is maar beperkt parkeerruimte. Parkeer daarom netjes langs de weg en houd ruimte vrij voor anderen. Carpoolen is natuurlijk nog beter.

🦯 Wandelstokken kunnen handig zijn bij het klimmen en dalen en voor je evenwicht.

Hike Ribeira de Algibre 16/09/26

The summer heat is still hanging around a little, but the mornings are slowly becoming more pleasant and I’m really looking forward to heading into the inland Algarve together again.

On 16 September, we’re returning to a beautiful route between Loulé and Boliqueime: Ribeira de Algibre. Some of you may have joined me on this walk before, but I think it’s a lovely way to ease back into the hiking season.

Never joined one of my walks before? This is a great one to start with. You don’t need to know anyone and you’re very welcome to come on your own — people usually get chatting naturally along the way.

We’ll walk around 8 km on unpaved tracks, varying between wider and narrower paths. Part of the route follows the Ribeira de Algibre, which is usually dry at this time of year. Even so, the landscape remains surprisingly green. Along the way we’ll pass olive trees, small plantations, old wells and peaceful little places you would never see from the main roads.

It’s not a difficult hike and, with around 55 metres of elevation gain, it’s a nice first walk after the hot summer months.

Please note: parking at the starting point is limited, so please park carefully along the road and leave enough space for others. Car sharing is even better.

🐶 Dogs are very welcome! Maximum 2 per person.
🥾 Shoes with good grip are recommended.
💦 Bring plenty of water.
🦯 Walking poles can be useful for the uphill and downhill sections and for extra balance.

09/09/2026 korte wandeling Farol & Culatra 🏝️

Op woensdag 9 september staat er een uitstapje naar het eiland Culatra op de planning! Een combinatie van wandelen, eilandgevoel, vissersdorpjes, Ria Formosa en de Atlantische Oceaan.

We wandelen eerst door het dorpje Farol met zijn kleine eilandhuisjes en natuurlijk de bekende vuurtoren. Daarna steken we het eiland over richting de Ria Formosa. We wandelen een stukje langs de lagune en steken vervolgens opnieuw het eiland over, waarna we via het strand langs de Atlantische Oceaan verder wandelen richting het dorp Culatra.

De wandeling is ongeveer 6 km, niet moeilijk en geschikt voor de meeste mensen. We wandelen in een rustig tempo en hebben alle tijd om onderweg van het eiland en de uitzichten te genieten.

We lopen afwisselend over zand, harde paden en houten vlonders. Een deel kun je heerlijk op blote voeten lopen, maar slippers of fijne, lichte schoenen zijn ook handig. Zware wandelschoenen zijn voor deze wandeling zeker niet nodig. 👣

Culatra is nog altijd een bijzonder en authentiek eiland. Er zijn geen auto’s en het dagelijkse leven is er sterk verbonden met de zee en de visserij. Je wandelt er tussen kleine vissershuisjes, zandpaden en bootjes en krijgt echt dat typische eilandgevoel. 🐟⛵

Eenmaal in het dorp Culatra is er tijd om zelf rond te kijken, iets te drinken, te zwemmen of gewoon lekker van het eiland te genieten.

🍴 Lunchen
Wie het leuk vindt, kan gezellig mee lunchen in een restaurantje op het eiland. Laat het me wel even weten als je mee wilt eten, dan reserveer ik vooraf een tafel voor de groep.

Rond 15:00 uur nemen we de taxi boot weer terug naar Olhão.

09/09/2026 Mini Walk Farol & Culatra 🏝️

On Wednesday, 9 September, we’re heading to the island of Culatra! A lovely combination of walking, island life, fishing villages, the Ria Formosa and the Atlantic Ocean.

We’ll start by walking through the village of Farol, with its small island houses and, of course, the famous lighthouse. From there, we’ll cross the island towards the Ria Formosa, walk for a while along the lagoon, and then cross back to the other side. We’ll continue along the beach beside the Atlantic Ocean towards the village of Culatra.

The walk is around 6 km, not difficult and suitable for most people. We’ll walk at a relaxed pace, with plenty of time to enjoy the island and the views along the way.

We’ll be walking on a mixture of sand, firm paths and wooden boardwalks. Part of the route is perfect for walking barefoot, but flip-flops or comfortable lightweight shoes are also a good option. Heavy hiking boots are definitely not necessary for this walk. 👣

Culatra is still a very special and authentic island. There are no cars, and daily life is closely connected to the sea and fishing. You’ll walk between small fishermen’s houses, sandy paths and boats and really get that typical island feeling. 🐟⛵

Once we arrive in the village of Culatra, there will be some free time to explore, have a drink, go for a swim or simply relax and enjoy the island.

🍴 Lunch
Anyone who would like to can join us for lunch at a restaurant on the island. Please let me know if you’d like to join for lunch, so I can reserve a table for the group in advance.

At around 15:00, we’ll take the taxi boat back to Olhão.

Het wandelseizoen is weer begonnen!

We beginnen nog een beetje rustig aan, maar de eerste wandelingen staan alweer gepland.

Als je nu al zeker weet dat je mee wilt, kun je je gewoon opgeven. Wil je eerst wat meer weten over de wandeling, het niveau enz.? Wacht dan nog even, meer info volgt snel! 😊

En natuurlijk zijn honden ook dit jaar weer meer dan welkom! 🐾 Maximaal 2 honden per persoon. Niet iedereen is even gek op honden en er lopen vaak meerdere honden mee, dus het is vooral belangrijk dat iedereen (met én zonder hond) van de wandeling kan genieten. 😊

Normaal gesproken geef ik in de zomer regelmatig privéwandelingen. 🌿 En ja… er stonden ook weer een paar leuke op de planning.

Maar helaas moet ik die voorlopig annuleren.

Gisteren was ik druk met mijn pleegkatje. In het donker liep ik vol tegen een bamboestok aan. Ik hoorde kraak… keek naar beneden… en mijn kleine teen stond ineens een heel andre richting op. 😅

Gelukkig hebben ze hem in het ziekenhuis in Faro weer netjes rechtgezet. Nu is het vooral wachten tot de pijn minder wordt en ik weer normaal kan lopen.

Dus voor nu: even een wandelbreak. Zodra ik weer op twee goed functionerende voeten sta, laat ik het natuurlijk weten!

Ps: als je nog een kat wilt adopteren je weet me te vinden 🤪

Normally, I offer private walking tours throughout the summer. 🌿 And yes… I had a few lovely ones already scheduled.

Unfortunately, I have to cancel them for now.

Yesterday, I was busy looking after my foster kitten when, in the dark, I walked straight into a bamboo stake. I heard a crack… looked down… and my little toe was suddenly pointing in a completely different direction. 😅

Thankfully, the team at Faro Hospital put it back where it belongs. Now it’s just a matter of waiting for the pain to ease and for me to be able to walk normally again.

So, for now, I’m taking a little break from walking. As soon as I’m back on two fully functioning feet, I’ll let you know!

Vroeg in de ochtend zijn korte wandelingen ook in de zomer nog zeker mogelijk. Het is fijn om even weg te zijn van de drukte aan de kust en helemaal op te gaan in de rust van de natuur.

Voor de tweede keer boekte Inge bij mij een privéwandeling als onderdeel van haar inspirerende Business Retreat. Deze wordt georganiseerd vanuit Casa Ferrobo, een prachtige kleinschalige vakantieaccommodatie vlak bij São Brás de Alportel. Toevallig is dit ook één van mijn favoriete wandelgebieden, omdat de omgeving er zó mooi is.

Tijdens de wandeling vertelde ik het eerste halfuur over de omgeving, de planten en de bomen die we onderweg tegenkwamen. Daarna wandelde de groep een halfuur in stilte, luisterend naar het kabbelende water en de zingende vogels. Ondertussen had Inge haar deelnemers een mooie reflectie-opdracht meegegeven om tijdens de stiltewandeling over na te denken.

Het was een super mooie combinatie van natuur, rust en persoonlijke ontwikkeling. Ik vond het super om opnieuw een bijdrage te mogen leveren aan haar bijzondere retreat. 💚

Wat ik ook zo mooi vind aan de Oost-Algarve, is dat we als “kleine” ondernemers elkaar echt helpen en elkaars bedrijven promoten.

En natuurlijk een extra bedankje aan Denise en Frits voor het enthousiast promoten van mijn wandelingen.

Early morning walks are definitely still possible, even in summer. 🌿 It’s the perfect way to escape the crowds along the coast and fully enjoy the peace and beauty of nature.

For the second time, Inge booked a private walk with me as part of her inspiring Business Retreat, hosted at Casa Ferrobo, a beautiful small-scale holiday accommodation near São Brás de Alportel. It also happens to be one of my favourite walking areas because the scenery is simply stunning.

During the first half of the walk, I shared stories about the area, the local plants and the trees we encountered along the way. The second half was spent walking in silence, listening to the gently flowing water and the birds singing, while Inge had given her guests a reflection exercise to think about.

It was such a wonderful combination of nature, tranquillity and personal growth. I was delighted to be part of her special retreat once again. 💚

One of the things I love most about the Eastern Algarve is how small local businesses genuinely support and promote one another.

And of course, a special thank you to Denise and Frits for enthusiastically recommending my walks. 🥰

Het vakantieseizoen is begonnen en het is nu een stuk drukker in de Algarve. Ook is het warm, dus er wordt niet veel meer gewandeld. Maar er zijn nog steeds plekjes waar je de rust kunt vinden en waar de temperatuur heerlijk is. Daarom doe ik nog steeds wandelingen op aanvraag, zoals gisteren.

We gingen naar Armona. Daar is het nog heerlijk. Je komt aan in de drukte, maar die laten we al snel achter ons. Daarna hebben we het eiland op ons gemak verkend. We genoten van de prachtige lagunes met helderblauw water, de vele visjes en krabbetjes en natuurlijk de heerlijke temperatuur op het eiland. We hebben zelfs nog een duik genomen in de oceaan.

Daarna zijn we lekker gaan lunchen met een koud glas bier en of glas wijn. En toen weer met de boot terug naar Olhão! ☀️

The holiday season has started and it’s much busier in the Algarve now. It’s also quite warm, so there isn’t much hiking at the moment. But there are still places where you can find peace and quiet and enjoy lovely temperatures. That’s why I still do walks on request, like yesterday.

We went to Armona. It’s still wonderful there. You arrive in the busy area, but we leave that behind very quickly. Then we explored the island at a relaxed pace. We enjoyed the beautiful lagoons with their crystal-clear blue water, the many little fish and crabs, and of course the lovely temperature on the island. We even took a swim in the ocean.

Afterwards, we enjoyed lunch with a cold b**r or a glass of w**e, and then took the boat back to Olhão! ☀️🌿🌊🍺🍷

Summer Walk Armona – 15 juni 2026 🏝️

Ontsnap naar het paradijs en ontdek het prachtige eiland Armona!

Op maandag 15 juni is het weer nieuwe maan, wat zorgt voor extra grote getijdenverschillen. Het perfecte moment voor een korte wandeling over Ilha da Armona.

We wandelen met laag water door de mooie lagunes richting de oceaan. Daar is er tijd om lekker af te koelen met een verfrissende duik 🌊 Daarna wandelen we rustig terug via het gezellige dorpje van Armona. Na de wandeling kun je nog heerlijk rondstruinen, een terrasje pakken 🍹 of gezellig mee gaan lunchen 🐟🌿. Alles is goed! Maar laat het mij wel even weten dan weet ik voor hoeveel personen ik moet reserveren in het restaurant.

Rond 15:00 uur nemen we de boot terug naar Olhão.

Summer Walk Armona – June 15, 2026🏝️

Escape to paradise and discover the beautiful island of Armona!

On Monday, June 15, it will be a new moon, creating extra-large tidal differences. The perfect opportunity for a short walk on Ilha da Armona.

We’ll walk through the beautiful lagoons at low tide towards the ocean. There will be time to cool off with a refreshing swim 🌊. Afterwards, we’ll take a relaxed walk back through the charming village of Armona.

After the walk, you’re welcome to explore the island, enjoy a drink on a terrace 🍹, or join us for lunch 🐟🌿. Whatever you prefer is fine! Just let me know in advance so I can make a restaurant reservation for the correct number of people.

At around 3:00 PM, we’ll take the boat back to Olhão.

Dit keer maakten we een prachtige wandeling van 8 kilometer met zo’n 200 hoogtemeters door het binnenland van de Algarve. Een super mooie en afwisselende route, met telkens weer nieuwe uitzichten.

Het begint hier al behoorlijk warm te worden, maar het was nog steeds goed te doen. Onderweg konden we heerlijk afkoelen in de riviertjes, en natuurlijk de honden ook 💦!

This time we went on a beautiful 8-kilometer hike with around 200 meters of elevation through the inland area of the Algarve. It was a stunning and varied route, with new views around every corner. 🌿☀️

It’s starting to get quite warm here, but it was still very manageable. Along the way we could cool off in the little rivers, and of course the dogs enjoyed that too 💦🐾
