When the biggest kid in the ocean decides to jump 🐋😂

S***m whales can breach, but it’s pretty rare. Scientists aren’t completely sure why, but it may be for communication, play, or simply showing off! Breaching may also help them get rid of parasites and remoras attached to their skin.

And when you’re a 15+ metre whale, that’s A LOT of energy! No wonder they don’t do it every day...

Beautiful shots from last week’s s***m whale encounter🐋✨
This behaviour is called breaching: when whales launch their bodies out of the water.
Scientists believe it may be a form of communication, parasite removal or even play. Calves may also breach to build muscle which helps them increase oxygen storage for future deep dives.
