🎉 Three Years of the Whaleboat Summit: celebrating a heritage that remains alive!
Over the past three years, we have done everything in our power to share our whaling heritage with the world — its history, its masters, its youth, and its people.
We have done so with the help of so many, coming from every corner of the world: officers and crews of the Pico whaleboats, all the clubs from Pico, the Whalers’ Museum, the Center for Arts and Marine Sciences, the Lajes do Pico School, the whale-watching companies of Lajes do Pico, the Pico Botanical Institute, the Mar & Ilha community… and many others who, generously — and often anonymously — helped us find solutions and point the way forward.
And above all, with the invaluable support of the Municipality of Lajes do Pico.
In these three years:
▪️ We filmed two “Bombordo” episodes for RTP
▪️ Produced a short documentary in English
▪️ Filmed a documentary to introduce our youngsters
▪️ Took a whaleboat to Foiling Week, on Lake Garda (Italy)
▪️ Were featured in a prime-time report on SIC
▪️ Published in Fugas/Público, Forbes International (2x), Yachting World (2x), Voiles & Voiliers, and Sirene Magazine
▪️ Built a Cafre (with the help of Kees van Vugt, Persico Marine, Velas Pires de Lima, and the students and teachers of EBSLP)
▪️ Enabled EBSLP students to have Physical Education classes on the Cafre
▪️ Created dozens of posts and publications across social media
▪️ And today (20 November), with a post by Kurt Arrigo, we reached 1 million views!
None of this would have been possible without a true army of volunteers. Because, in the end, there are things that money simply cannot buy.
Thank you to all who have rowed with us — yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
This whaling heritage lives on. And it keeps on sailing.

Com o dever cumprido!

Embarcação Cash A Lot (AN Madeira)

Considerando o excelente resultado desportivo alcançado pela tripulação da embarcação madeirense Cash A Lot, da Associação Náutica da Madeira, ao conquistar o título de Campeão Nacional, na Classe ORC A, no Campeonato de Portugal de Cruzeiros ORC 2025 que decorreu de 12 a 15 de julho de 2025, dignificando a Região Autónoma da Madeira e o desporto regional, a Direção Regional de Desporto congratula e felicita os atletas, a Associação Regional de Vela da Madeira e todos os responsáveis por este êxito, desejando que continuem o bom trabalho no trilho do sucesso, em prol do desporto regional e nacional.
