“There’s a part of you that lives on stage.”

My stand-up teacher tells us as she continues to combat our fears of going to open mics and bombing.

“The part of you on stage is also the part that was willing to take this class.”

Damn. She’s right.

There is a part of me that lives on stage, I access her every time we perform our joke in front of the class.

A part of me that is fearless immediately takes over, and I don’t even care if I do my bit and I bomb…because the courage it takes to do this outweighs the outcome.

Isn’t this what life is all about?

To truly, immerse yourself in a moment infatuated with uncertainty and anticipation, you enjoy the entire ride…the journey.

Standup has been a new challenge that combines my love for writing, creativity, and storytelling.

Being on stage with a mic has me feeling some way…a little bit of justice and a whole lot of ME wanting to come out.

It’s my current vessel for my truths in this current season of my life, and maybe that’s what living is…to explore with an open heart of curiosity of places that allow us to show up as our fully expressed selves.

This is how I let go of resentment for anyone who has hurt me…

Within wanting people to heal and face their truth comes pain.

And some people are just not ready nor have the right support system to manage their pain.

They may never get there…and that’s their choice…which is allowed.

Resentment fosters the burden that doesn’t belong to us…let it go and give the burden back to where it belongs…with them.

It’s their healing journey…not ours.

One weird thing I like to do is create made-up scenarios before I meet anyone for the first time so I’ll be prepared to defend myself if I meet someone that judges, rejects or makes me feel unsafe to be myself.

(thank you cPTSD X hyper vigilance 😏)

These scenarios typically play out like this:

I get asked about my ethnicity.

They find out I’m a daughter of Cambodian genocide survivors.

There’s a long silence of discomfort because who the hell knows how to act with that info 🤷🏻‍♀️.

They ask if I have siblings.

I tell them I have 2 older sisters, one is a doctor, and the other is a data analyst for Stanford Hospital.

I then proceed to undermine my worth because how can I dare measure up to my perfect sisters with my out of box life path…

but this time…when I played this scenario out a few days ago…I no longer undercut my worth…instead, I gave myself love.

I do not fit in any mold, boxes, or society’s perception…and I fricken LOVE myself so much for it.

I’m done with the shame and guilt for moving through the world by feeling instead of looking cool to my 2nd cousin twice removed.

And I love myself even more by letting that sh*t go…because even if I may be a burden to others by not living up to their idea of me which is so engrained in Cambodian culture…I can just leave it as that because the weight of judgment is not mine to carry…it’s theirs.

So if you’re living a life based on what makes you feel good…fueled by the love in your heart…that is a GIFT the world needs to witness.

I’m proud of you for being brave…because taking risks in the name of creative pursuits is what can truly change the world.

Idk who needs to hear this but I think the way you move through life is beautiful.

Maybe they judge you because they’ve never met anyone like you.

What a gift you are.

You’re presence is their energetic present.

And maybe they’re too unconscious to realize it…they’re still living in their delusions because it’s comfortable to be naive.

But you’re not…at least not anymore.

You’re honest.
You’re bold.
You’re brave.

You’re you.

And what a better world this would be if more people lived, listened, and exist the way you do.

Don’t ever doubt yourself.
Don’t ever doubt your gifts.
Don’t ever doubt your stories.

Love is real when you don’t have to question it.

Love is real when you feel it in your bones when they’re hundreds of miles away.

Even when you’re terrified, there’s an essence of safety all around you.

It’s been surrounding you waiting for you to take notice.

To finally look up and into the sky with open eyes, welcoming this love into your sacred heart.

And when this light encompasses your heart, the love vibrates, activating every nerve ending.

It feels endless because it is.

It feels endless because it is unconditional.

For love has no limits, and now you are safe to see it, to feel it, to breathe into its existence.
