TFY - The Fat Yogis + TFYTT

TFY - The Fat Yogis + TFYTT The Fat Yogis(TFY)- Home of Functional Yoga. We are a group of yoga students and practitioners of all shapes and sizes.

Expert international teacher trainings and a home-made, no-nonsense yoga website offering classes, meditations and talks from Anat Geiger and Marcel van de Vis Heil. The Fat in our name is not only an aesthetical description; it is a recognition that yoga, and life, are not one-size-fits-all. That we are all here with our imperfections and our weaknesses, and that we can still work on ourselves an

d have a great time along the way. So we decided to own the Fat in us, whatever that is, and invite you to come and join us exactly as you are. We have all experienced in our own lives how a sincere yoga practice can shine light in darkened corners of ourselves, teaching us to cultivate energy, health, depth, friendliness, laughter, understanding, fulfillment and peace. We are not enlightened (yet!), do not spend our days among candles and incenses, not all of us are vegetarians, or skinny, or perfect. We are human beings trying to be the best we can be in a crazy world, and we want to share with you what we ourselves have found to be healing and helpful. We offer you:
physical practices that we have developed during our many years of yoga, targeting flexibility, strength, coordination, balance and relaxation;
meditation practices to guide you through periods of quietness and introspection;
lectures on subjects relevant to understanding our bodies, our behavior and our experiences. We keep it as simple as possible, and as much as we love looking good, that is not our goal. We just want to drop the pretense and practice for real, with you. The Fat Yogis are:

Marcel van de Vis Heil – master yogi, gym aficionado and theologist. Anat Geiger – chakra explorer, yin yang practitioner, amateur philosopher. Ehud Neuhaus – designer, amazing backbender, photographer.

Here is in Rabbit pose — a little nod to Tu’er Shen.

In Taipei there’s a Taoist shrine dedicated to the Rabbit God, Tu’er Shen— protector of same-sex love, and eventually embraced by the whole LGBTQ+ community. Ancient mythology, still quietly radical.

This pride month we are doing rabbit pose in their honour. A deep stretch for the back, and a small bow to a tradition of love that has always existed — in all its forms.

Happy Pride 🏳️‍🌈🐇

100 hours. 10 days. A lifetime of insight.
We just completed our Yin Yoga, Mindfulness, Chakras & Meridians training — an in-depth journey into the deeper layers of practice, guided by Marcel and Esther, with online lectures from Paul Grilley, the pioneer of Yin Yoga as we know it today.
If you’ve ever wanted to understand why Yin works — on the body, the mind, the energy system — this kind of training changes everything.
Feeling deeply grateful for the practice, the teachings, and everyone who showed up.

Join us 8–18 April 2026 for a 100-hour Yin Yoga training in the mountains of Northern Portugal, guided by Esther Ekhart and Marcel van de Vis Heil. Over ten days, we explore Yin Yoga from the inside out: functional anatomy, the full range of Yin postures and their variations for different bodies, chakra theory, meridians, philosophy, and (mindfulness) meditation. The program also includes two online workshops with Paul Grilley, the founder of Yin Yoga.

The training takes place at D’Alijo Retreat Center, surrounded by forests, quiet trails, and spacious practice areas. There’s room to rest, enjoy massage treatments, and nourish yourself with balanced vegan and vegetarian meals.

If you feel called to expand your understanding and bring more depth to your practice, this is your invitation.

In class yesterday the teacher kept saying “this should hurt” — and in the pose in this drawing, even that your elbows and back should hurt.

We do believe yoga can feel intense, even highly uncomfortable, and in vinyasa that burning in your muscles can make sense. But in compression poses it’s different.

So we are curious: should we ever say “this should hurt” in yoga, or is it better to talk about discomfort instead?
