Too get on the podium at the all new SXS race at Weston Beach Race, you need to drive with commitment and precision, as demonstrated by our very own Matthew Hall during the sighting lap! It takes a certain kind of special to park a car like that! 🙈🙈🙈
Friday wasn't the typical day in work for the boys! There's been talk of an SXS race at Weston for years, but this year the organisers and Jason Zembrzuski managed to make it happen!
It was wet, it was windy, it was sandy and it was definitely wild!
After an interesting sighting lap, the cars all eventually lined up to hit the beach for a 3 hour endurance race!
Jason managed to work his way to the front very quickly and built a commanding lead, which he held onto right up to 30mins to go when his rear diff let go! Gutting would be an understatement!
Paul didn't get the best of starts but was working his way through the field before disaster struck and one of his fans started cutting it's way into his radiator. He had to pit a couple of times before Liam solved the issue with 3 raw eggs! The damage was done though, and he had lost touch with the leaders.
Matt however, after his Mav R gymnastics during the sighting lap, set off in the race with a plan to drive at 80% and get the car to the end rather than trying any heroics to push the leaders at the front. It's a method he's used successfully before and once again it paid off as he crossed the line in second place after 3 hrs of racing, just 3 ½mins after the winner, having closed 3 minutes on the last lap! Wonder what would have happened if they had gone for another lap!?
Congratulations to Ryan Sheppard on a, quite literally, sick win!
And Jerome Bennett on bringing his Pro R home in 3rd place having driven in 2 wheel drive for the final 6 laps.
Oddly enough, both those cars are ex PAR Homes Racing cars!
3 very sandy and salty cars to wash, strip and rebuild now, ready for their next adventure!
