⚓️𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗮 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘄𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗸, 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗼, 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗴𝗮𝗹 🇵🇹
Diving the wreck of the Corvette General Pereira d’Eça (often nicknamed "Cordeca"), which was intentionally scuttled off the coast of Porto Santo in the Atlantic Ocean in July 2016, following 40 years of service in the Portuguese Navy. The operation was meticulously planned; the ship settled upright on the sandy seabed at a depth of approximately 30 meters, creating perfect conditions for both divers and marine life.
Before its sinking, the vessel was carefully prepared. All hazardous materials and pollutants were removed, and strategic openings were cut into the hull to allow divers to safely explore the interior. While diving through the ship, you can visit the engine room, the mess hall, and even the captain’s bridge.
Nature swiftly reclaimed the steel structure. Today, the wreck is a thriving ecosystem where you can encounter massive groupers, schools of barracudas, and moray eels hiding in the ship's many nooks and crannies.
