Listen up, this weekend we're bringing you a short list of FAQs that might help you better understand what our DIY kit is and what it offers.
The questions raised here have been collected from those most frequently asked by customers.
Perhaps this list will open up more questions for you and be a good starting point for deciding to own your own velomobile, and most importantly and excitingly, a velomobile you've built yourself, which is incredibly satisfying :)
Ready? Let's get started....
Cab Bike Hawk DIY Kit: FAQ
I. Kit Overview
What exactly is the Cab Bike Hawk DIY Kit? The Cab Bike Hawk DIY Kit is a comprehensive package for self-assembly of a velomobile. The design is centered around a monocoque chassis (a stress-bearing bodyshell) made of composites (fiberglass). The hull forms the main structural element to which all mechanical parts are attached.
What are the primary benefits of the Cab Bike Hawk? The main advantages include full weather protection, high aerodynamics (allowing for more efficient cycling), and enhanced safety due to the full enclosure and i.a. rear stainless steel roll cage with a turnover rollbar .
How much does a finished Cab Bike Hawk typically weigh? The completed vehicle weighs approximately 39 kg (when ready-to-use with the 12V Li-Ion battery included for electronics) the final weight always depends on the chosen configuration.
II. Compatibility Question: Frame Adaptation
Can I adapt any random trike (tricycle) to the Cab Bike Hawk kit? ABSOLUTELY NOT. This is the most crucial point. The Hawk kit features a monocoque construction that integrates the drivetrain and suspension directly into the hull. It is not merely a fairing or shell to be mounted onto an existing trike frame. This means the kit is designed to have its own dedicated drivetrain and cannot be combined with the frame of any other pre-existing tricycle.
What specific mechanical parts are integral to the Hawk design? The monocoque structure is built around a specification for specific, high-quality components, including:
Drivetrain: A Nexun 8 internal gear hub and a SHIMANO REVOSHIFT RS47 V8 shifter.
Brakes: Specialized STURMEY ARCHER DRUMBRAKES 90 MM at the front and a Roller Brake at the rear.
Suspension: A fully suspended design, featuring MacPherson suspension at the front.
III. Assembly Requirements and Components
What is included in the DIY kit package? The kit typically includes the Complete body - composite elements, suspension elements and construction elements. Some mechanical and electronical parts can be bought separately depending on buyer's needs. We as a manufacturer provide a list of what might be necessary even before you decide to buy, we will provide you with a list of items you may need so that you can decide what you want to buy right away and what you will need later.
Are electronics included or required? The finished vehicle includes electrical accessories powered by a 12V Li-Ion battery, such as: full LED lighting (low beam, daytime running lights, brake light, turn signals), a horn, charging sockets, and a voltmeter. The DIY kit is a product which gives you even more freedom so you decide whether you need these elements and want to pay for them or not.
What level of commitment and skills are needed to successfully assemble the Hawk kit?
Building your own Cab Bike Hawk is a tremendously satisfying project where a methodical approach, patience, and a genuine passion for tinkering are far more critical than years of professional experience!
The assembly process primarily requires you to utilize:
Practical Manual Skills: Necessary for the precise assembly and fastening of mechanical components, drivetrain, steering system etc. This is a perfect opportunity to deepen your technical knowledge!
Crucial Flexibility in Finishing:
The bodyshell is delivered in a way that minimizes difficult composite work. You have a choice: you can order it already painted or prepared for painting. If you prefer not to undertake the painting process yourself, you can easily commission a professional painter, or opt for the increasingly popular and simpler method of vinyl wrapping. This flexibility allows you to focus your efforts where you feel most confident—on the mechanics and final assembly!
In summary: If you have the enthusiasm, basic tools, and a willingness to learn, you are well-equipped to assemble your own Cab Bike Hawk and save some money !
