As a neutral football fan watching a UEFA Champions League semi-final, you simply can’t ask for more—this is already beyond enough.
This isn’t just football, this is pure entertainment at the highest level. It never feels like “too much”—instead, you don’t want it to end.
Matches like these between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are the perfect advertisement for the sport. This is exactly how you attract a new audience—how you make someone fall in love with football and this competition.

Just when you thought that might have been the best first half of a UEFA Champions League semi-final, the second half somehow raised the bar even higher. You could easily argue this was one of the greatest halves ever seen at this stage.
Considering the form, team spirit, cohesiveness, and tactical brilliance shown by Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich throughout the season, expectations were already sky-high. But even then—this level of intensity and drama was beyond imagination.

After watching Paris Saint-Germain vs Bayern Munich, it feels like Real Madrid are currently a step below the very top tier of the UEFA Champions League.

PSL Moving to eight teams has unlocked a new level of competition. It’s no longer just challenging to qualify; it’s a dogfight. Expanding the league makes it truly competitive, as securing a spot in the top 4 out of 8 teams is a far steeper mountain to climb.
​This format demands more skill and consistency. When there are fewer teams, the third or fourth team can sometimes sneak through with slightly less competitiveness or skill. Now, you need to be firing on all cylinders just to stay in contention.
​Look at the table this season: three teams finished on the same 10 points. That tight clustering is only possible with an eight-team structure. One team qualified on a better Net Run Rate (NRR), a direct result of the intense, points-shaving battle we saw. This fascinating, nail-biting scenario wouldn’t have happened in a six-team tournament.
​Every match matters. Every over matters. The competition is on a whole new level.

We’ve seen some great initiatives from the PSL management, listening to fan demands and making changes. But let’s be honest: there’s a long road ahead to make this a truly top-tier global product. We have to understand that the product is for the fans on TV. If we want to attract the same audiences who tune into the IPL or other major leagues, we will always be compared on arrangement and presentation.
​The tiny little details matter to the sports fan watching on TV:
​Perfect pitches: Visibility and sharpness of pitch edges need to be neatly done. The grass needs to be pristine and look homogeneous, just like we see in Chennai.
​Pristine environment: All IT and electric cabling must be hidden. Clutter kills the broadcast vibe.
​Owner etiquette: A professional league shouldn’t have owners seated on boundary fences on sofas. They belong in Pavilion VIP boxes. This is standard elsewhere for a reason.
​Then there is the fan experience. We need activities outside and inside the stadium. Transform the venue! One massive area to improve is using LED advertising. It completely changes the outlook, glows the stadium in a different way, and replaces those outdated, dusty, or dirty cement walls with a modern, professional broadcast feel.
​Home and away basis is a must, and ground infrastructure needs to be improved, much, much better. We have a great product on the field; let’s make sure the packaging is just as good.

Let’s talk facts, not emotions.

Despite being the biggest and most successful club in the world, Real Madrid have struggled to dominate La Liga in the modern era.

Since 2008–09:

FC Barcelona → 10 titles 🏆
Real Madrid → 5 titles 🏆

That’s a huge gap.

Even more interesting…

Since Lionel Messi left Barcelona (2021):

Real Madrid → 2 titles
Barcelona → 2 titles

And since Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid (2018):

Real Madrid → 3 titles
Barcelona → 3 titles

So what does this tell us?

What is Real Madrid doing? After the draw against Girona FC and FC Barcelona’s win over RCD Espanyol, there is now hardly any doubt left in the La Liga title race — Barcelona look set to win it again.

It’s quite extraordinary that Barcelona, a club that has been going through financial struggles in recent years, is on the verge of winning back-to-back La Liga titles, while Real Madrid, the highest revenue-generating club in the world, is unable to do the same.

The reality is that Real Madrid last won back-to-back La Liga titles in the 2006–07 and 2007–08 seasons, before the arrival of Pep Guardiola. Since then, not even during the era of Cristiano Ronaldo, nor after Lionel Messi left Barcelona, have they managed to repeat that achievement.

Real Madrid’s strategy and squad building seem perfectly suited for the Champions League, but winning La Liga requires a different level of consistency — something they have struggled to maintain. If this continues, the day is not far when Barcelona’s La Liga title count could get even closer to Real Madrid’s.
