GCU Student Represents Pakistan in U-18 Men’s Hockey Asia Cup

Ghulam Mustafa, an Intermediate student of Government College University (GCU) Lahore, is proudly representing Pakistan in the ongoing U-18 Men’s Hockey Asia Cup being held in Japan.

The Pakistan U-18 hockey team has shown an impressive performance in the tournament, securing victories against China and Bangladesh in the group stage. With these outstanding wins, Pakistan has successfully advanced to the semi-final of the prestigious event.

Pakistan will now face arch-rivals India in the U-18 Men’s Hockey Asia Cup semi-final on 5 June. The highly anticipated match is expected to be a thrilling contest as both teams compete for a place in the final.

The Vice Chancellor of GCU Lahore and the GCU Sports Board have extended their heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Pakistan team, especially to Ghulam Mustafa for his remarkable achievement of representing the country at the international level.

They expressed confidence in the team’s abilities and hoped that the young Pakistani players would continue their excellent form and bring home the gold medal for the nation.

The intermediate sports-basis admission process at GC University, Lahore, reached its final phase today with the completion of candidate interviews.

A total of 1,12 candidates who applied under the sports quota underwent the evaluation process, culminating in today's final interview round.

The panel assessed the student-athletes on their sports certificates, trial performance, and academic backgrounds.

The official interview committee was led by Director Sports, Muhammad Waseem Akhtar, along with Director Intermediate studies Siddique Awan and Deputy Director Registrar Kashif, ensuring a transparent and rigorous selection process throughout the day.

The final merit list will be displayed on the university's official website after Eid Ul Azha Holidays.

The cricket trials saw an impressive turnout today, with numerous candidates gathering at the ground seeking admission under the sports quota.

Out of more than 200 aspirants who competed throughout a long, hot summer day, the Directorate of Sports successfully shortlisted 24 outstanding athletes.

These selected players will now showcase their skills further to determine the final rankings.

Ensuring equal opportunity for all participants, the selection committee will finalize the rankings following tomorrow's match, which is scheduled to begin at *6:00 AM at the GCU Cricket Ground.*

🏑 Traditional Festival Hockey Match Revives Glorious Legacy at the Oval

GC University Lahore, in collaboration with the Old Ravians Union, proudly organized the Traditional Festival Hockey Match on 14 May 2026 at the historic Oval Ground—a venue that has witnessed countless iconic matches, even before the partition of the subcontinent and the creation of Pakistan in 1947.

The Oval once again came alive as legends of Pakistan hockey, prominent alumni, students, faculty, and staff gathered to celebrate a long-standing Ravian tradition that beautifully connects the past with the present.

This memorable match featured Vice Chancellor XI versus Old Ravians XI:

* Vice Chancellor XI was led by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omer Choudhry, Vice Chancellor of GCU Lahore.
* Old Ravians XI was captained by Mr. Athar Ismail, President Old Ravians Union and RPO Sheikhupura.

The match ended in an exciting 2–2 draw, and in the true spirit of sportsmanship, the trophy was jointly received by both captains and will be shared between them.
