First Ever Boot Camp of WWF in Pakistan

Cadets from CCH participated to complete their Duke of Edinburgh International Award Activity. For the said purpose, 19 cadets and their Award Leader, Mr Mozam Ali Saqib with the team of WWF went to the Boot Camp at Shogran.

Multiple Interactive sessions and activities were supervised by the experts from WWF on:

i- Camping (the cadets set up a camp village of 11 tents)

ii- Hiking to the famous Makra peak over 3800 meter

iii-Use of binoculars

iv-GPS Navigation through devices provided by WWF

v- Ecological zones of Pakistan

vi- Strategy and steps for Wildlife-sighting

vii- Leadership and Team-building

viii- Career counselling for wildlife protection and research

Besides participating in the above activities, the participants were awarded with five badges each after successful completion of the activities. WWF Head office would soon issue the certificates to the participants for their accomplished venture.

CCH Adventure Club explores the splendour and beauty of Azad Kashmir and treks through the sapphire trail

The Club planned another expedition for its cadets to the ‘heaven on earth’ i.e. Kashmir Valley with the kind co-operation of HQ 10 Corps.

The major excitement of Trip was Neelam Valley known for its clear waters and chilly summers, its snow-capped mountains and above all ‘Roaring Neelum River’ meandering through the whole valley and its clear blue waters the very reason for being named ‘Neelum’(Sapphire).

The Cadets really enjoyed this thrilling trip and their visit to many remote areas in Azad Kashmir and allured by the highly fascinating beauty PirChinasi, Sharda, keran river view point, Dhani waterfall, Kel, Arangkel, Helmet, Taobut etc.The contingent was accompanied by the Adjutat CCH, Major Nishat Ali.

Nanga parbat

Ominously dubbed, “the killer mountain,” this Pakistani giant killed 31 climbers before the first full ascent was ever completed in 1953. Coming in at ninth on the tallest mountains list, there’s more to Nanga Parbat’s infamy than height alone. Especially brutal weather can make the ascent treacherous even by the extreme standards of the eight thousanders. Checking in just above Kangchenjunga in terms of deadliness, a full 23% of all successful summits have been accompanied by a death.

Just months ago, an attempt to summit by two of the world’s most experienced mountaineers turned fatal when a sudden snowstorm struck. French climber Elisabeth Revol and her partner, Tomasz Mackiewicz, had to abandon their effort to reach the peak when unexpectedly fierce blizzards began to lash the mountainside. Revol was able to descend to a point where she was able to use a satellite phone to call for help, but Mackiewicz was stranded higher up the mountain.

A team of highly skilled Polish mountaineers abandoned their own concurrent trek to the top of K2 for the rescue mission. They were helicoptered to Nanga Parbat and made it to Revol in time to save her. Unfortunately, the altitude at which she had left Mackiewicz was unreachable in the conditions. Snowblindness and the shockingly low temperatures handicapped the rescuers. Nanga Parbat, which literally translates to “naked mountain,” rises so high above all surrounding terrain that it’s completely exposed to the jet stream. While Mackiewicz is the most recent (and highly publicized) victim of this ruthless topography, the history of Nanga Parbat indicates he surely won’t be the last.

CCHAC undertook a clean-up campaign in Fairy Meadows and all the way upto Nanga Parbat Base Camp.

Manager Raikot Hotel acknowledged our efforts by displaying a plaque in his hotel.

A contingent comprising 18 Cadets, two members of the faculty, an NCO and a Paramedic went on Adventure Trip (July 9 to 17) to Fairy Meadows, Nanga Parbat Base Camp and Three lakes in Naltar Valley Gilgit Baltistan.

They explored the magical beauty of snow peaked Mountains, mesmerizing Landscapes and crystal clear cataracts.
