Strengthening Regional Collaboration Through Sports

Dr. Elmer M. Labad, Regional Sports Director, convened the Sports Directors of the State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in Region IX today, September 10, 2026, at Western Mindanao State University.

The meeting focused on preparations for the upcoming **Regional State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) 2026**, including the possible sports entries of each SUC, the selection of regional athletes, and other important matters concerning future athletic competitions.

The Regional Sports Council extends its sincere gratitude to **Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, President of Western Mindanao State University and PASUC Region IX President**, for her all-out support, invaluable guidance, and steadfast commitment to the development of sports programs and student-athletes across the region.

Through strong leadership, collaboration, and careful planning, the participating SUCs reaffirmed their commitment to providing meaningful competitive opportunities for student-athletes and advancing sports excellence throughout Region IX.

A productive meeting was held with Dr. Cecilia C. Atilano, Sports Development Officer of the Zamboanga City Sports Office, and Hon. Elbert “Bong” Atilano, bringing together Sports Directors from the State Universities and Colleges of Zamboanga City and representatives from various Local Sports Associations and coaches.
Western Mindanao State University was represented by OIC-Director Dr. Crisanto V. Cipriano and Assistant Director Mr. Christian T. Llanes.
The meeting provided a meaningful venue to discuss common concerns, strengthen coordination, and explore opportunities for greater collaboration in sports development. More than a meeting, it reflected a shared commitment to building stronger partnerships among the academe, local government, and the sports community for the continued development of athletes, coaches, and sports programs in Zamboanga City.

Western Mindanao State University proudly welcomes the approval of **Resolution No. 74, Series of 2026**, providing a proposed incentive mechanism for students who participate in and win in national and international competitions.

The Sports Development Office extends its sincere appreciation to the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Services, led by Dr. Fredelino M.
