NEWS | The football field in Barangay Manicahan came alive with cheers, determination, and youthful energy as aspiring athletes competed in the 28th DΓa de Manicahan βBola Kontra Drogaβ 7-a-Side Football Festival on August 1, 2026.
More than just a competition, the festival served as a meaningful campaign encouraging children and teenagers to become physically active, develop discipline, and stay away from illegal drugs. Organized by the Manicahan Milagrosa Football Team in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Manicahan, the event brought together football clubs from different communities for a full day of friendly yet intense competition.
From the youngest players in the Under-9 division to the experienced competitors in the Under-17 category, every match showcased teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. The young athletes displayed impressive skills on the field as families, coaches, teammates, and supporters cheered from the sidelines.
In the Under-9 category for players born in 2017, La Purisima emerged as champion after delivering an outstanding performance throughout the tournament. Atletico Vikings secured the first runner-up position, while Manicahan Milagrosa B finished as second runner-up.
The Atletico Vikings continued their strong campaign in the Under-11 category for players born in 2015, capturing the championship title. Tolerance claimed first runner-up, followed by Manicahan Milagrosa as second runner-up.
Atletico Vikings once again demonstrated their football prowess in the Under-13 category for players born in 2013, earning their second championship title of the festival. Soccerroo Zamboanga finished as first runner-up, while Maicho Boys secured the second runner-up spot.
In the Under-15 category for players born in 2011, host team Manicahan Milagrosa proudly defended its home ground and claimed the championship. Maicho Boys earned first runner-up, while Soccerroo Zamboanga completed the podium as second runner-up.
The festival concluded with an exciting battle in the Under-17 category for players born in 2009. Tolerance rose to the occasion and captured the championship title, followed by Culianan Football Team as first runner-up and Don Pablo Football Team as second runner-up.
Throughout the tournament, the players proved that football is more than scoring goals or winning trophies. It is also a powerful platform for building confidence, creating friendships, developing discipline, and guiding young people toward healthier and more productive choices.
Through the βBola Kontra Drogaβ initiative, the organizers emphasized that sports can play an important role in preventing drug involvement among the youth. By providing children with opportunities to train, compete, and become part of a supportive team, the community helps them discover their potential both on and off the field.
As the final whistle echoed across the field, the festival ended with more than just newly crowned champions. It left behind a stronger message,that when communities invest in sports and the development of young people, every goal scored becomes a step toward a safer, healthier, and drug-free future.
