According to my unpublished study, this species is caught in greater abundance during the full moon. While further scientific research is needed to confirm this pattern, many local fishermen have long associated the full moon with increased catches of bilong-bilong. 🌊🎣

Baby Whale Shark Released Back Into the Sea 🐋

Today, June 10, 2026, a three-meter baby butanding (whale shark) was accidentally trapped in a JECA Lambaklad Fishing operation in Tibiao, Antique. It was safely released back into the sea. 💙

Tibiao is part of the Cuyo East Pass, an important migratory route for fish and endangered marine species, including whale sharks - the largest fish in the world. 🐟

Two days ago, we also deployed an indigenous artificial reef project for local fishermen. Made from bamboo, buri leaves, and dried coconut leaves, the tangkal provides shelter for fish and helps support sustainable fishing practices. 🎣

Protecting marine life and creating habitats for fish are small but important steps toward conserving our seas for future generations.

Baby Whale Shark Released Back Into the Sea 🐋

Today, June 10, 2026, a three-meter baby butanding or whale shark (Rhincodontypus) was accidentally trapped in a JECA Lambaklad Fishing in Tibiao, Antique. It was safely released back into the sea. 💙

Tibiao, Antique is part of the Cuyo East Pass, an important migratory route for various fish species and endangered marine wildlife, including whale sharks, the largest fish species in the world. Encounters like this highlight the ecological importance of our waters and the need to protect these gentle giants and their marine habitat.

Two days ago, we also deployed an indigenous artificial reef project for our local fishermen. The tangkal is made from bamboo, buri leaves, and dried coconut leaves, providing shelter and habitat for fish while supporting sustainable fishing practices in our coastal communities. 🎣

Together, these efforts remind us of the importance of conserving our marine resources for future generations.
