One of the recurring challenges we have encountered at PadLike, as many pickleball courts do during open play, is double stacking and other rotation-related situations that can result in some players getting more court time while others are still waiting for their turn. We understand how frustrating this can be, which is why we have been making a conscious effort since early this year to strengthen the implementation of our open play rules.
Recently, we came across a post from a player who shared an unpleasant experience at PadLike. We are genuinely sorry that the situation left the player feeling frustrated. That is never the experience we want for anyone who comes to our court.
Because the post concerned the way the rotation rules were implemented, we felt it was only fair to look into what happened before making any conclusions. We reviewed our CCTV footage, spoke with the players involved, and retraced the sequence of events.
Based on our review, three players from the group who were supposed to play next had already gone home, leaving only one player from their group. To avoid delaying the game, three players from the next group, which included the player who made the post, were asked to fill the three vacant spots.
As part of our open play system, incomplete teams are filled by the players next in the rotation order. During this exchange, one of the three players who was asked to fill in offered the player who made the post the opportunity to take the available slot and play instead. However, the offer was declined, and the player subsequently left the court.
We are sharing these details not to argue with anyone or dismiss how the player felt as we understand how frustrating situations like this can be. We are simply providing the context because we believe our players deserve to know what happened, especially when a public post concerns an incident that affects the wider PadLike community.
At PadLike, we believe in Behavior that goes against these values is not tolerated by management. At the same time, we believe in accountability. Every player is responsible for their own behavior. Management can establish rules, remind players of proper conduct, and take action when necessary, but we cannot control every individualโs choices.
