♟️ PHILIPPINE ARMY CHESS TEAM SHOWCASES POWER AND EXCELLENCE IN PSC SELECTION – LUZON LEG 2026
The Philippine Army Chess Team proudly demonstrated its exceptional skill, strategic superiority, discipline, and competitive prowess during the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Selection – Luzon Leg 2026, held on 21–23 August 2026 at the Athletes’ Village, Santa Cruz, Laguna.
Competing against some of the country’s strongest chess players, the Philippine Army Chess Team showcased not only its individual talent but also the strength, determination, and intellectual power of the Philippine Army, proving its capability to excel in highly competitive national-level sporting events.
The prestigious selection event was organized by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), providing a significant platform for the Philippine Army Chess Team to demonstrate its readiness, competitiveness, and potential to represent the organization and the nation in higher-level competitions.

A total of 88 chess players from various universities and Local Government Units competed in the Open Men’s Division, under an 8-Round Swiss System.

🥇 Champion – PFC Kevin E. Arquero (Philippine Army) — 7.0 points
🥈 2nd Place – Richie Jocson (Calamba, Laguna) — 6.5 points
🥉 3rd Place – PFC Kevin T. Mirano (Philippine Army) — 6.5 points
🏅 28th Place – Pvt Arvin T. Dableo (Philippine Army) — 4.5 points
🇵🇭 QUALIFIED FOR THE SEMI-FINALS
All participating Philippine Army Chess Team players qualified for the Semi-Finals Selection for the Philippine Chess Team, with the tentative schedule set for the coming months.
