A recent article reports that schools in China are starting to introduce jiu-jitsu as a mandatory subject for kids.

And honestly, I think that says a lot about how powerful jiu-jitsu can be for child development.

From my experience, I’ve seen jiu-jitsu completely transform kids in different ways.

For kids that are too aggressive, too overconfident, or have behavior problems…

Jiu-jitsu humbles them very quickly.

Because once they start live training, they realize:
- things won’t always go their way
- other kids can challenge them
- frustration is part of growth

And that teaches humility.

At the same time, I’ve also seen the opposite.

Kids who are:
- shy
- insecure
- afraid to interact

suddenly become more confident through training.

They start communicating more.
They learn how to deal with pressure.
They become more comfortable around other people.

And that transformation is amazing to watch.

Another thing people don’t talk about enough is physical development.

In my own case, I was not a coordinated kid at all.

But once I started taking jiu-jitsu seriously, my coordination improved naturally over time.

Jiu-jitsu develops:
- balance
- movement
- body awareness
- coordination

without kids even realizing they’re learning those things.

And one of the biggest benefits is interaction.

Kids have to:
- drill together
- solve problems together
- train together

They learn how to work with different personalities and different energy levels.

Of course, there needs to be balance.

I don’t think kids should be pushed into extreme competitiveness too early.

But when taught correctly, jiu-jitsu can be one of the best activities a child can do.

Not just for fighting.

But for life.

What do you think? Should jiu-jitsu become part of school programs in more countries?
