Jazz Elmer Malaque of Santiago City has made history at the 2026 Palarong Pambansa by becoming the very first athlete from the region to win double medals in badminton, securing both Silver and bronze in the Elementary Boys singles and Mixed doubles events. The competition, held in Bayugan, Agusan Del Sur, showcased the growing prowess of Badminton Advantage athletes, drawing attention from across the country.
Malaque's remarkable achievements not only highlight his individual talent but also signify the rising status of badminton in Region 2.
The success of Badminton Advantage has caught the eye of all regions across the nation, Rolan Zander De Guzman, Simon Apacible, Sophie Alacar and Jaspher Domingo also made it to Quarterfinals. Coaches are now more focused than ever on developing talent from Santiago City and the surrounding areas.
The Palarong Pambansa, which brings together young athletes from various regions across the Philippines, serves as a platform for showcasing emerging talent. This year’s event has particularly highlighted the competitive spirit and skill of Region 2 athletes, leading to increased support and resources for sports development in the area.
As the tournament concludes, the spotlight remains on Region 2, with hopes of continued success in future competitions. We are just getting started. With the right training and support, We believe we can achieve even more.
