The most dangerous moment in kitesurfing isn't on the water.
Launching your kite sets the tone for your entire session. Avoid these common mistakes to stay safer and get on the water with confidence.
❌ 1. Launching in the Wrong Wind Window A.K.A the POWER ZONE
Launching with your kite too close to the power zone can result in a sudden, powerful pull. Always position your kite at the edge of the wind window for a controlled takeoff.
❌ 2. Skipping Your Pre-Launch Safety Check
Before giving the launch signal, check your lines for tangles, make sure your quick release is working, and confirm your leash is attached correctly. A 30-second inspection can prevent major problems.
❌ 3. Ignoring Your Surroundings
Never launch without checking for people, obstacles, power lines, or other riders downwind. Give yourself plenty of space in case something doesn't go as planned.
Your session starts on the beach, not in the water.
