"For a lot of our swimmers, swimming in a national event was a first. Each athlete had their own responsibilities and goals to accomplish. From executing race plans well, executing good technique, proper nutrition and recovery, learning the dos and donts in and out of the pool, and many more.
Like any competition, there were wins and losses. With those wins come room for more improvement and with a loss comes fire to be better.
As a coach, I couldn't be more ecstatic with our swimmers' performances in this meet. But besides all the good swims are also the experiences and growth these kids are garnering. It makes the job all the more worth it.
I remember almost 10 years ago, one of my mentors, Coach Pinky, asked me if I had any plans coaching - and I told him I was dead set in being a musician. I could not ever picture myself in the world of swimming - yet here I am, responding to this calling. And so far, it's been more than good. Here's to you, Coach Pinky! Wish you could see my swimmers rn.
And here's to the underdogs! And to the many more waves we'll be riding!
