The World Surf League is bringing the Championship Tour to the Philippines for the first time ever — and it's all thanks to the Philippine Sports Commission

This is what the PSC has been building toward: putting Filipino talent on the same lineup sheet as the world's best, on home turf, at home waves.

Through the continued support of the Philippine Sports Commission, this is more than one surfer's moment — it's proof of what's possible when a nation invests in its athletes. John Mark "Marama" John Mark M Tokong, the wildcard for the Philippines Pro will surf Cloud 9 against the Championship Tour's elite, at the break he grew up on.

A local trials competition will also be held at Cloud 9 to decide an additional men's and women's Wildcard for the event, seeing a total of three Filipinos representing the host country for the first time at the elite level.

CONFIRMED: Siargao’s own John Mark “Marama” Tokong is headed to the Philippines Pro. This is history in the making.

The WSL has named Marama a wildcard for the inaugural Philippines Pro, presented by the Philippine Sports Commission. He’s earned his seat at the table before the world even lands at Cloud 9.

October 31 – November 10, 2026. Cloud 9, Siargao. Marama Tokong is in the lineup.

This is the PSC’s vision in action — putting Filipino talent on the same heat sheet as the world’s best, on home turf, at home waves.

2 more Filipinos will get a chance to join the worlds best at their home turf.

This didn’t happen overnight. Since 1996, the Siargao International Surfing Cup is the Philippines’ longest-running international surf event. Decades of belief just paid off.

Filipino surfers get their shot on the world stage. Winners of the Philippines Pro CT Trials (1 man, 1 woman) earn wildcard spots to compete alongside the world’s elite — a reduced, 24-men/16-women postseason field of World Title contenders. This is Filipino talent, finally seen. 🇵🇭

Huge news for Philippine surfing! 🇵🇭 The World Surf League just announced its partnership with Philippine Sports Commission, bringing two major international events to our shores: an International QS 6,000 in Siargao and a Longboard Tour stop in La Union. 🌊 Get the full scoop on the 2026/27 schedule and new formats here:

The Longboard Tour is officially coming to the “Surf Capital of the North!”. Monaliza Point in La Union has been named Stop No. 3 of the 2026 World Tour.

This isn’t just a new location - it’s a whole new game. The 2026 season introduces a fresh points-based format:

- 24 men and 24 women will battle at Stop No. 3: Monaliza Point for 10,000 points.
- First 3 events = 24 surfers (10k points). Final event = Top 12 surfers (15k points)
- The race then heads to El Salvador for a Top 12 shootout to crown the World Champs.

The longboard tour will once again host events in Huntington Beach, California (July 25-29); Bells Beach, Australia (Nov 25-29); Surf City, El Salvador( Mar 13-21, 2027).

We can’t wait to show the world the “surf-mad” culture of Urbiztondo and watch our very own compete on home turf against the world’s best.
