Christian “Coach Cricket” Villarreal
A Legacy of Discipline, Service, and Champion Mentorship.
From the rugged mountains of the Cordilleras to the elite ranks of the United States Marine Corps, Christian Villarreal, widely known as Coach Cricket; embodies the spirit of a true world-class athlete and mentor.
A "Baguio Boy" by heart and a warrior by trade, his life is a testament to the power of resilience and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
Coach Cricket’s athletic journey began in the high altitudes of Baguio City, where he emerged as a versatile standout in basketball and table tennis. His competitive edge was solidified at the 1988 Palarong Pambansa in Cagayan de Oro. Representing both the Ilocos and Cordillera regions, he secured historic Silver and Bronze medals against junior national seeded players—a feat that marked the beginning of a lifelong career in elite sports.
Following the 1990 Luzon earthquake, Christian moved to the United States.
While his path initially leaned toward the medical field, a calling to serve led him to the United States Marine Corps. As a Marine, he maintained his athletic prowess, representing base teams in North Carolina and Japan in both basketball and volleyball. It was during his later deployment to California that he discovered his ultimate passion: Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
In 2010, Coach Cricket returned to his roots in Baguio City with a vision to transform the local sports landscape. He founded Tribal Submission Philippines, an extension of his training lineage in California. For over a decade, he has been a cornerstone of the Philippine MMA community, architecting the careers of numerous champions and instilling the "Marine-standard" of discipline in his fighters.
Guided by his favorite mantra, "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a simple step," he continues to inspire the next generation to take that first step toward their own greatness.
Coach Cricket remains a symbol of the Cordilleran warrior spirit—disciplined, humble, and elite.
