Kali Manila

Kali Manila A Manila-based organization of schools dedicated to teaching Filipino Martial Arts

Kali Manila is the new name of a group that was created after the Pekiti Tirsia Kali Manila group elected to disassociate itself from the Pekiti Tirsia Kali organization in February of 2015. The roots of Kali Manila go back more than 10 years, to the formation of the Pekiti Tirsia Kali Manila group in 2006. This group has its own roots in the first civilian PTK group in Metro Manila, which began t

raining with the leaders of the PTK system in 2003. Since withdrawing from the PTK organization, the members of Kali Manila have continued on their own path of training and growth. The goals of Kali Manila are simple: do its part in keeping the Filipino Martial Arts alive in the Philippines and help introduce this martial culture to other countries, through positive and respectful interaction.

"Two Moro Scouts ca 1912. Two Moro soldiers of the 52nd Company Philippine Scouts, with Springfield M1903 rifles and bolo bayonets."
(University of Wisconsin)
The 51st and 52nd were the only Philippine Scout Companies comprised of all-Moro (Mindanao Muslim) soldiers. The 51st were Maguindanaos from Cotabato and the 52nd were Maranaos from Lanao.
Because Moros in the Philippine Constabulary wore their distinctive red fez hats, the Moro Scouts chose to wear their own distinctive brimless headwear as shown in the picture.

The following is our official statement concerning the viral video of a student from Ateneo using his Tae Kwon Do skills to attack his classmates.

As an organization, we have never encouraged and tolerated bullying of any kind. What we teach requires a great deal of maturity and a very high degree of discipline. We believe that only by giving our students the maximum amount of respect and dignity can we then push the boundaries of safety and intensity in training and we expect that same respect and discipline be extended by our students and instructors to those around them. There is no room in our organization for those who cannot live up to these standards and we have demonstrated this zero-tolerance policy before.

All of our instructors have therefore been reminded that they have the absolute authority to immediately expel any student found guilty of bullying or misusing their skills for anything other than self defense of themselves, loved ones and others in need of assistance.

This incident of bullying not only highlighted a dark practice within many educational institutions but it also does a great disservice to the martial arts and martial practitioners who share our disgust, anger and shame over the bully’s misuse of his skills. The bully’s actions are going to negatively affect the public image of the martial arts and we hope that the individual behavior of martial artists from all systems does win back the trust and admiration of the general public.
