The Fighting Maroons delivered impressive results at the Hybreed – Founder’s Cup Rapid Chess Open Division on August 21, 2026, securing podium finishes and strong overall performances against a competitive field of more than a hundred players.

12th Place — 𝐈𝐨 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚

But beyond the standings, this tournament marked a special experience for the team.

After nearly 18 years away from local tournament chess, Coach Leo marked his competitive return, participating in his first local chess tournament since 2008.

It was a strong showing for the Fighting Maroons, reflecting the team’s continued commitment to the upcoming UAAP Season 89 Standard Chess.

The work continues. We are ready!

Cyrus Vladimir Francisco, age 20, is a chess varsity player representing the University of the Philippines in the UAAP.

One of the pioneering prodigies of Legacy Chess Philippines, Cyrus was among those who helped turn a dream into a reality—the belief that chess can be more than a sport; it can be a tool toward achieving higher education and building a better future.

Now, Cyrus has come full circle. From being one of Legacy Chess PH’s young players, he is now giving back as a coach of Legacy Chess Ph and serves as the Head Coach of the Maroon Chess Academy.

The principles he learned, the discipline he developed, and the values instilled in him through the journey have never faded. More than the games won or trophies earned, it is the bond, friendship, and legacy that remain.

Because once you become part of the Legacy Chess Ph, the journey never truly ends. The bond remains—forever.
