It started as a nook where chess players can meet to play a match, chit- chat or simply unwind and while away the time over a cup of coffee. Frequenting the Café then were old and new friends, and former acquaintances from Nova town proper informal chess club, the Novaliches Chess Club and some familiar faces who share the same passion. é existed, grew stronger over a short period of time, and the core group decided to formalize the organization hence, Novaliches Novelty Chess Club came to being on May 29 of 2011. Foremost in its objective is – to provide ‘chess haven’ for the chess players. With the indubitable dedication and concerns for the chess players of its first (and up to the present) elected president, Sonsea Agonoy, the place was renovated and developed so much so that every member or guest would feel dignified that his/her game is chess. Tournaments after tournament were organized and staged at the chess club headquarters and even at the nearby mall. Officers of the Novaliches Novelty Chess Club felt the need to reach out and be not confined to Novaliches only and began considering that the future influence and events be held outside of its comfort zone thus the word “Novaliches” has been removed and the Novelty Chess Club was born.
