DURABILITY TESTED💯
The hubs are made of 6061/Force 7075 aluminum alloy and feature Japan 6903 cartridge bearings.
These large bearings in the front and rear hubs offer increased contact and better distribution of forces, resulting
in lower rolling resistance and better durability.
features an engagement system of 8 pawls and 80 ratchets. Pawls are staggered into 4 groups of 2 pawls. The
other pawls are simultaneously preloaded. This allows for 320T And 640 points (or 1.125º) of engagement. This
means exceptionally fast and efficient power transfer no matter the riding you do. Each pawl has has two claws,
spreading the driving force over a larger surface area, therefore maximizing the contact points and extending the
life of the freehub.
Hub servicing has been made easy with no need for special tools.
How the SPEEDONE ARMORER 640 Hubs Were Tested
Testing
In addition to testing CARBON/ALLOY rims, spokes, and complete wheelsets, SPEEDONE tests its own hubs as well.
The longevity and reliability of a hub is assessed using our torque fatigue test. It simulates what would happen to a hub under extreme riding conditions over a long period of time. It does this by putting a high amount of stress of the pawls and teeth in the freehub mechanism. The test works by ... 10,000 times of 900 newton meter/seconds, equivalent to 900 watts. This is comparable to 10,000 900 watt sprints.
The Results
Real World Conditions
The torque fatigue test was specifically designed to mimic real world conditions. Using a standardized test that reflects extreme riding allows us to be sure that our hubs are engineered properly and built to last. This testing allows us to put hubs through the same amount of stress in weeks that would have taken years from real world riding.
Why High Engagement
When designing a freehub mechanism, there is a decision to be made regarding the amount of engagement. In some occasions, having more can be of a significant benefit. This is especially true while riding on more technical terrain in mountain biking. The SPEEDONE ARMORER hub achieves an exceptional 640 points of engagement, allowing for
The Ideal Number of Pawls👇
👉In order to create a high engagement hub, SPEEDONE designed and produced the ARMORER hub in order to push the limits of what is possible without sacrificing longevity, durability, or reliability. For this reason the freehub mechanism uses four groups of 2 pawls. Having 2 pawls on opposite ends simultaneously engaged creates balance. Having 3 of the 8 pawls engaging at one would disrupt the balance and could cause a host of problems. Having 2 sets of 4 pawls is another potential choice, but our torque fatigue test has shown that 2 pawls simultaneously engaged is more than enough👈
