TWO DAYS. ONE NIGHT. ROAD + TRAIL. ⛰️🔥
Last Friday to Saturday, I got to spend two days and one night on the trail with Master John Cabales, an ultra runner from Panay.
What started as a failed rendezvous at Mt. Napulak turned into an adventure through Igcabugao, then to Baldan, Tubungan via Sitio Tagbacan. We eventually sheltered at Tita Leonila’s place, then woke up at 3 AM the next morning.
From Tita Leonila’s / Bebing’s Eatery, we started with a downhill road section to Brgy. Igtuble proper our jump-off for Mt. Lingguhob. We used the old trail for the ascent, then mapped out a new trail for the descent.
And man… it was fun, but unforgiving. 😂
I also got to put my Sandugo Mt Fuji Trail Shoes in a different colorway to the real test. From paved roads and long downhill sections to rocky, technical, and rough trails, these shoes handled it all. Road-tested. Trail-tested. Grip-tested. 👟🔥
As you can see from the terrain, the grip really had to work, and the MT Fuji did not disappoint. Still amazing traction even when the route switched constantly between road and trail.
And honestly, this trip made me realize the gap between a proper ultra runner and a wannabe ultra runner. 😂 I didn't push myself too much since I still had a hike event to lead the next day, but even with that, the experience was a blast.
Big thanks to Master John for sharing his knowledge about ultra running, trail running, and even life. And of course, for all the pakulet moments, laughs, and random trail chaos along the way. 😂
Two days. One night. New routes. New lessons. New stories.
Salamat, Master John! Until the next sufferfest. ESWABIII, GO ULTRA! 🏃♂️⛰️🔥
