Manila Ice Vixens (Philippine Women's Ice Hockey Team)

Manila Ice Vixens (Philippine Women's Ice Hockey Team) We're an all-female ice hockey team in the Philippines. We are a member of the Women’s Ice Hockey Association of the Philippines (WIHAP).

The official hockey team of WIHAP is The Manila Ice Vixens (MIV). Individually, some of us started out as figure skaters while others tried ice hockey out of curiosity. Ice skating itself was a mere utopia in a tropical country. Eventually the Philippines were able to build small teams that comprised of male and a few female players who started to compete locally. Most male team members were able

to compete internationally since 1995 representing Manila. We dared to build a women's team in our country where only male players dominated the sport and where figure skating is the popular sport for women. Finally, it came true and we promised to continue this association in the succeeding generations. We started with a single women’s team known as Manila Vixens which was formed in 2000. We became popular in the local scene and were invited to numerous TV programs and were featured on local newspapers. Competed locally and won several times amongst other women's team. It lasted for a while then some members of Manila Vixens went abroad and others concentrated on their careers. A few members continued playing for Manila Wingers in 2005. Then finally, we revived the Manila Ice Vixens with old and new members in 2006. 5 members joined their 1st international competition at the World Ice Hockey 5's in KL, Malaysia last May 2006. Combined with Asian Stars (Philippines, HK, and Macau). Recently, the first all-Filipina players, MIV competed in World Ice Hockey 5's in HK last June 2007.
