PADI Tec Gas Blender Course in session over the last couple days! This is an in-house dry course consisting of theory and practical sessions.

Especially useful for careers in diving, dive shop owners and tech divers — especially if you need to blend gas in remote locations, as divers often manage to find themselves in.

He’s known for a long time that he wanted to become an Instructor with us, and complete his Divemaster. With some planning and prep, he’s been absolutely incredible. Watching him grow over the past months has been truly fulfilling for us.

We deeply care about proper training, and we can see the incredible passion Dean holds for the ocean and his training.

We couldn’t be more proud, and he’s even begun his tech journey this week with us after IDC & IE.

Today, we’re working on Gas Blender course with the group, but we wanted to highlight Deans incredible training journey thus far and how high his standards have been held.

It’s been, and continues to be such a pleasure!!

A MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS and Introducing your future dive instructors.... DYANNE & DEAN 🥳 What a few weeks it has been! All the diving, learning, studying, challenges, celebrations, problems we kept assigning you.... and today you’ve both passed your PADI IE and are now officially PADI Instructors!

We couldn’t be more proud of you both for the incredible effort and dedication you’ve both put in during your IDCs. Today marks the first day of your journey into your new careers.

You’re going to be incredible instructors.

Mask removal and replacement is probably the most dreaded skill in the entire Open Water Course for students,  especially for anyone who isn’t used to water on their face.

Which is exactly why it matters how it’s taught.

Here’s our IDC Candidate Dean demonstrating it during the Open Water teaching portion of his course. Slow, exaggerated movements students can actually follow.

Being calm and clear is the whole point. A student watching a relaxed, unhurried demo learns more than the skill itself... they learn that it’s no big deal. And that’s what instructing actually is!

One step closer to instructor, Dean. 👏

*Note: This video was taken in the first few days of the PADI IDC, so please be kind. We’ve done a LOT more training since then, and that’s what the IDC is about. We want to share real people learning to become instructors, and that you CAN do this if it’s been on your heart.

Today the candidates spent time with Frank doing an equipment workshop, actually getting hands-on with the gear, understanding how it all works from the inside out.

It’s an extra I like to include whenever possible, because when you truly understand how the equipment functions, all those equipment questions in the IE suddenly make a lot more sense.

It would be easy to just run you through the minimum standards and push you toward your IE. Plenty of places do exactly that. But the little extras, the workshops, the time spent making sure things actually click, that’s what turns you from someone who passed their IDC into someone who’s genuinely ready to teach.

It’s not the flashy stuff. It’s the small things we build in because we care whether you walk away confident, not just certified.

Dyanne and Dean are just ONE WEEK away from their PADI IE on August 12 & 13. Here’s some behind the scenes of the last couple of days during their PADI IDC at Sierra Madre Divers Bohol 🤿 PADI 5-Star IDC in the Philippines

Right now they’re deep in it 🤿 teaching presentations, skill circuits, standards, briefings, debriefs, repeat.

The people who succeed here aren’t superhuman. They’re not the ones with 2,000 dives and zero nerves. They’re the ones who were a little unsure, a little nervous, and decided to back themselves anyway. That’s it. That’s the whole secret.

In two weeks you walk out a completely different diver. A PADI Instructor. Someone who gets to teach this incredible sport for a living, in some of the most beautiful water on the planet.

Our next IDC kicks off September 23. Two weeks in paradise with Troy guiding you through every step.

That compass position? Wrong on purpose.😎 Why? Welcome to the PADI IDC at Sierra Madre Divers Bohol. 

During IDC confined and open water training, candidates take turns playing student and instructor, and Course Director Troy assigns each “student” a specific mistake to act out. Because this is exactly what happens with real students.

Dean’s assigned error 👇
Holding the compass up in front of his face, instead of arm extended, compass flat, locked in with the other hand at a right angle. That’s how you actually follow a heading.

Dyanne caught it within seconds and immediately corrected it.

Dean carried on with his 10 kick cycles, hit his turnaround, and navigated straight back to the start point.

Then the debrief.
High-five first (because positive physical reinforcement is important when you can’t speak underwater).

🧠 Then “remember this”: she replays the mistake, signals no, and demonstrates the correct position again so it sticks.
That’s instructor habit-building, not just skill-checking.

You can know navigation inside out.
Teaching it is a different skill, and that’s what the IDC builds.
