In front of an emphatic 14,000-strong crowd of cheering Filipinos, Alas Pilipinas pushed powerhouse Iran to their limits and nearly carved out another monumental victory in a thrilling, do-or-die five-setter at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City.

For one shining moment, the national squad stood on the brink of victory after multiple, harrowing match points—until Iran’s successful challenge overturned the final point, swung the momentum, and closed out the Philippines’ historic campaign at the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship.

Truly, it was a game for the books—the opening chapter of a great new era for Philippine men’s volleyball.
