On February 28, 2026, the Balangay Sailing Club, together with the SMET LAYAG Publication and Sailor Symphony Ensemble, conducted a SANRAYA Team Building 2026 at SMET campus to strengthen camaraderie and collaboration.

With a creative blend of SpongeBob SquarePants and One Piece, the theme celebrated ocean vibes and “nakama” bonds—symbolizing friendship, trust, and unity.

The program opened with inspiring remarks from Mr. Brian Jones, followed by engaging team games that strengthened communication and teamwork. As night fell, the celebration continued with a vibrant Retro Ball, where participants showcased retro-inspired outfits and shared memorable moments together.

More than just a themed event, SANRAYA 2026 highlighted the power of unity—proving that when organizations come together as one crew, stronger bonds and greater achievements follow.

The Balangay Sailing Club (BSC) officially launched its First Sailing Activity for 2026 on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2026, sailing from Cubi-Cubi, Gumamela Beach to Pamela Beach, Buenavista. This coincided perfectly with the celebration of love and connection, as the club's members strengthened their bonds with the sea and each other.

Serving as a refresher course for BSC Second Year club members, the activity allowed them to review and apply fundamental sailing techniques and boat handling procedures. At the same time, it marked the introduction to advanced sailing for BSC First Year club members, allowing them to experience more challenging navigation and practical on-water training.

The sailing activity not only reinforced proper rigging, sail handling, and coordination at sea but also reflected the club’s mission to preserve maritime traditions and inspire a renewed appreciation for sailing. Through this first voyage of the year, BSC set a strong and purposeful tone for 2026—promoting discipline, cooperation, continuous learning, and the revival of sailing heritage among its members.

We at Balangay Sailing Club are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Mr. Rojo “Roy” Espiritu. He passed away doing what he loved, guided by a lifelong passion for the sea. Sailing was never just something Mr. Espiritu did — it was part of who he was, a place where he found freedom, purpose, and joy.

Our deepest condolences go to his family, friends, and all who sailed alongside him. Mr. Espiritu will be remembered not only as a sailor, but as someone who truly found himself on the water, and whose spirit will always be carried by the wind and waves he loved so much.

Sailboat Maintenance and Spare Parts Preparation During Visit of Mr. Brian Jones with BSC Members

On January 24, 2026, Mr. Brian Jones visited the club to briefly inspect the sailboats and provide additional tools for maintenance.

During the maintenance, the BSC members focused on creating new tillers so that if a tiller gets damaged during sailing, it could be quickly replaced without reducing the number of available boats. They also applied epoxy on sail parts to strengthen and extend their usability.

With the maintenance nearly complete, the members were finishing the last steps to get the sailboats ready for sailing again. The tools provided helped wrap up the work efficiently, ensuring that all boats were prepared for safe and uninterrupted sailing.

BSC Concludes Last Sailing Activity of the Year 2025

The Balangay Sailing Club (BSC) conducted its Last Sailing Activity of the Year 2025 on December 13, 2025, sailing from Cubi-Cubi, Gumamela Beach to La Vista, Conchita Beach. The activity was participated in by BSC First Year and Second Year students, together with Mr. Brian Jones, Mr. Michael Foley and Mr. Doug Skinner, following the members’ request to hold a final sailing activity before the year ended.

The sailing began with the proper hoisting of sails and departed from Cubi-Cubi toward Nasipit, where participants navigated against the current. The group briefly stayed at La Vista for lunch and a short discussion on future plans before sailing back and circling the fish cage along the route.

The activity concluded with the unrigging, washing, and securing of the sailboats in the boat shed, marking a meaningful close to BSC’s sailing activities for 2025 and reinforcing teamwork, discipline, and seamanship among its members.
