For three inspiring days, the 3rd Ag Sala Tayon: Provincial Folk Dance Workshop brought together teachers, dance trainers, choreographers, dancers, and students from various institutions at Central Luzon State University for an enriching celebration of Philippine folk dance.

Held from July 24โ€“26, 2026, the workshop featured lecture-demonstrations and practical sessions that strengthened participants' skills in technique, musicality, and cultural authenticity while deepening their appreciation of the country's rich dance traditions.

The success of the workshop was made possible through the expertise and dedication of its resource speakers, led by Dr. Jennifer T. De Jesus, Head of the Department of Sports and Physical Education (DSPED), and Prof. Adonis Voltaire Villanueva, Head of the Cultural Affairs Office (CAO). Joining them were Dr. Haynes Angelo Narciso, Ms. Marimar B. Fuentes, and Ms. Antonette Roxainne Roque, whose collective knowledge, experience, and passion enriched the learning experience and inspired participants throughout the three-day workshop.

A defining highlight of the workshop was the outstanding contribution of the CLSU Bithay Sining Dance Company and the CLSU Rondalla, whose exceptional artistry and masterful performances brought Philippine cultural traditions to life.

Organized by the DSPED, the workshop reaffirmed its commitment to preserving Philippine folk dance by empowering educators, artists, and cultural advocates to carry the tradition forwardโ€”one dance, one story, and one generation at a time.

As part of its continuing commitment to academic excellence and graduate program development, the Department of Sports and Physical Education (DSPED) conducted an online benchmarking activity with the University of the Philippines College of Human Kinetics (UP CHK) on June 26, 2026, via Zoom.

The benchmarking activity served as a venue for meaningful discussions on the proposed Master of Arts in Human Movement Studies (MAHMS), focusing on graduate curriculum development, program structure, admission policies, faculty qualifications, research agenda, and best practices in the administration of graduate programs. The exchange of ideas provided valuable insights that will guide DSPED in refining the proposed curriculum and ensuring that the program is responsive to current academic standards and the evolving needs of the discipline.

The session also fostered institutional collaboration between CLSU and UP CHK, highlighting the importance of knowledge sharing and academic partnerships in advancing higher education. Through the expertise and experiences shared by the resource persons, the Department gained practical perspectives that will contribute to the successful establishment and implementation of the proposed graduate program.

DSPED extends its heartfelt appreciation to the UP College of Human Kinetics, particularly Associate Dean Dr. Ralph Andrew Ramos and Dr. Delmark A. Aseron, Director of the Graduate Studies Program, for their invaluable insights, guidance, and unwavering support. Their generous sharing of best practices and institutional experiences will play a significant role in strengthening CLSU's proposed Master of Arts in Human Movement Studies.

The Department remains steadfast in its commitment to developing quality graduate programs that promote academic innovation, research excellence, and professional advancement in the field of Human Movement Studies.
