Have you ever wanted to ask what those "Naruto" gloves are for? 🍥🍜🦊

Friction gloves, gym gloves, frisbee gloves...

These gloves come in generic or Ultimate-specific flavors. Yet not everyone uses them, which adds to the mystery and appeal.

Might look cool, but they're not for everyone 😅 It also takes some getting used to!

Ultimate is obviously not the only sport that uses gloves.

Most sports gloves are designed to improve the grip. Like the ones that help you lift weights better at the gym or cyclists use to maintain a safe grip.

The disc glove's design:

🥏 Provides better grip control. It also eliminates slips for forehand and backhand throws, thus improving throw distance.

🥏Helps play well in extremely cold or humid weather (imagine playing in the rain or having sweaty hands!)

🥏Has padded palms that help reduce impact injuries when catching

The rubberized fingertip patterns on full-covered gloves are a game-changer. It's what improves the grip! Most players prefer this type for better throws.

Others prefer the Naruto type with the fingers and knuckles exposed. You'd want this if you're more concerned with better catches by minimizing injuries.

The cons? 🤔

It takes a lot of getting used to. And once you use them too often, it feels different to catch the disc without the gloves on.

They're going to improve the grip if you have sweaty hands, but the hands will feel hotter compared to playing bare.

No two hands are exactly the same. Thus, wearing them is a personal preference. If you're not a wearer but struggles during bad weather, there's no harm in stuffing a pair of gloves in the bag. Just in case!

Ultimate is a unique sport because it can be played in a variety of ways and for a variety of lengths of time. For example, games in official Ultimate competitions are usually played to a set time limit of 50 to 90 minutes.

On some official time caps, it's 💯 minutes.

However, some leagues or tournaments may use a points-based system, where the first team to reach a certain number of points wins the game.

Additionally, some informal games may be played without a set time limit or score limit, with the goal of simply enjoying the game 🥰 and the company of others.

Ever wonder what those grooves on top of the disc for?

The grooves on top of the ultimate frisbee disc serve a very important purpose! They’re actually designed to help the disc fly straighter and increase its accuracy when throwing. 💪

The grooves are exactly the same size and spacing all around the disc, so when it is released, the air moves off of the disc in an even pattern, causing it to fly in a straight line. Without the grooves, the disc would be more likely to wobble or spin, making it much harder to control or throw accurately. 😵‍💫

The grooves also help with grip! 🤌

Imagine throwing a disc without a grip. Your fingers will have to work hard and grip harder, adding to the difficulty.

The grooves allow your fingers to grip onto the disc more easily, making it easier to throw. 🥏 If you’re going for a long throw, having a better grip on the disc will help you get more power behind your throw, enabling you to get the disc further.

So as you can see, the grooves on top of an ultimate frisbee disc are not just there for decoration – they have a very important purpose! They help the disc fly straighter, increase accuracy and ensure a better grip when throwing.
