CAMIGUIN POLYTECHNIC STATE COLLEGE - Davao Region's Hannah Michelle Elegio thundered her way to a bronze medal in the women's lightweight division of Taekwondo at the National SCUAA Games 2025, concluding her competition last April 24.

Elegio's powerful strikes and unwavering defense carried her through the tournament, showcasing her skill and determination on the national stage.

𝐌𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐒 ‘24 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐒 | 𝗥𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 79 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀, 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘀 18𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 35 𝗦𝗨𝗖𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹

Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) Raptors concluded their campaign at the Mindanao Association of State Tertiary Schools (MASTS) Friendship Games 2024 last November 23 to 30, held in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur with 15th and 18th place finishes out of 35 State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the Sports and Sociocultural categories, respectively.

Raptors secured 79 total number of medals in Sports with 9 golds, 16 silver, and 54 bronze medals, making the delegation with most number of bronze medals among all the participating SUCs. In a statement, Mr. Leonard Sydrick Pajo, Head of the Office of the Students Sports and Wellness (OSSW), stated that the athletes' valiant efforts fell just short of gold and silver, resulting in bronze medals. “It’s a solid performance, proving nearly everyone reached the advanced stages. Next year, we’ll come back stronger,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Raptors secured 18th place overall in the Sociocultural category. This was due to Christine Rivera's gold medal in vocal pop solo, Bryan Handacuna's fourth-place finish in on-the-spot poster making, and the team's fifth-place finish in the short and sweet play—musical. Additionally, in special events, Mr. and Ms. MASTS, Claudette Dapitanon and Em-em Alderite, won Ms. People's Choice and Mr. People's Choice and Mr. Congeniality awards, respectively.

With the 2024 MASTS Friendship Games now concluded, the DOrSU Raptors look forward to a stronger showing in the next competition. The team is determined to build upon the lessons learned and the experience gained from this year’s event. With renewed focus and dedication, the Raptors aim to climb the rankings and bring home more medals for Davao Oriental State University.

DOrSU’s golden raptor from the previous MASTS, Angelito Blataria of Banaybanay Extension Campus, scanned for another prey and successfully snatched the silver medal in Men’s Featherweight category of Taekwondo, held earlier today, November 28, at Zamboanga National High School, Pagadian City.

With his swift and agile senses, the master of fight in flight took home a bacon for DOrSU’s success.

The budding raptor, Hannah Michelle Elegio, a 3rd year BSBA student, sharpened her talons and clawed her way to take the coveted gold of taekwondo’s women’s lightweight category earlier today, November 28, held at Zamboanga National High School, Pagadian City.

After failing the previous MASTS Games, this promising student emerged fiercer and finally took her long-cherished first medal.

Elegio proved that a Raptor will not be bent willingly even by force.
