[📣 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗦𝗛 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗙𝗧𝗘𝗘 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗩𝗢𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗔𝗬 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲-𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳]

Held annually, the frosh and shiftee convocation focuses on equipping incoming psychology students on the pertinent information to support their academic endeavors as they begin their undergraduate journeys in the psychology program. Students will be informed of their flow charts, their respective faculty, student life opportunities, and more. It will also cover a number of points that 𝗠𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗕𝗘 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪𝗡 𝗔𝗦𝗔𝗣, such as grade requirements and prerequisites.

As we look forward to the upcoming academic year, all incoming FROSH and SHIFTEES are required to attend the frosh convocation. Please take note of the following schedule:

Venue: Pardo Hall, 5th Floor, Henry Sy Sr. Hall

NOTE: Due to venue limitations, we can only accommodate a maximum of 150 PERSONS per slot. Students are expected to attend only one session. Please choose the session that best fits your schedule. Freshmen and Shiftees may attend any of the three sessions.

Furthermore, 𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗜𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗥𝗘𝗗.

Please be informed that there will also be a college-wide CLA Frosh convocation. Details regarding this will be announced soon. Those who will not be able to attend the Department of Psychology Frosh Convocation on September 9 should make sure to attend this.

📣 ANNOUNCEMENT FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

For Term 1, A.Y. 2026-2027, Dr. Guadalupe Salanga is offering a new course elective on PSYHARI or Psychology of Human-Animal Relations:

This course investigates human–animal relations through the lens of social psychology, emphasizing how intergroup processes such as empathy, prejudice, stereotyping, and moral exclusion shape human attitudes and behaviors toward non-human animals. Students will critically examine how psychological theories of identity, intergroup contact, persuasion, and social influence can explain and transform human–animal interactions.

The course also highlights the public health and advocacy applications of these psychological insights. Topics include the role of companion animals in wellbeing, farmed animal welfare and food systems, zoonotic disease and risk perception, conservation psychology, and advocacy strategies for social change. Students will engage with case studies that connect psychological theory to pressing health and societal challenges, with attention to justice, sustainability, and marginalized communities.
