The Wrestling Association of the Philippines extends its sincere gratitude to Vice Mayor Benjo Bernabe, Chief of Staff Carlo Bernabe, Sir Robert Ty and the Parañaque City Government for their support, enthusiasm, and commitment to collaboration as we work together to create more opportunities for Filipino youth through sport.

We would also like to thank Paranque National High School - Main and Principal Gerry Lumaban for warmly welcoming us and taking the time to discuss an exciting grassroots wrestling initiative for the PNHS student body.

We are encouraged by the shared vision and eagerness shown by both the Paranque National High School - Main and the Vice Mayor’s Office to help introduce and grow the Olympic sport of wrestling among the students of Paranque who are ready to challenge themselves, learn new skills, and strive for excellence.

This is only the beginning, and we look forward to building meaningful together for the youth of Parañaque.

GRAPPLING | The Philippine grappling team captured three gold, one silver, and two bronze medals in the Senior, U20, U17 and U15 Grappling Asian & Oceania Championships in Da Nang, Vietnam on Friday.

Filipino-Australian siblings Charlie and Travis Ratcliff spearheaded the country's campaign after claiming gold medals in their respective divisions.

Charlie, who won gold medals at the Asian Youth Games in Manama, Bahrain and at the 1st Asian Mixed Martial Arts (AMMA) Youth Championship Qualifiers in 2025, dominated the U17 women’s 56kg division. She defeated Vietnam’s Thi Ngoc Mai Vu in the final via armbar.

Travis, a silver medalist in the AYG, also won by submission in the U20 men’s 62kg division final against India’s Mayank Pal.

Adding to the Philippines’ golden haul was Yani Alexii Lopez, who ruled the U15 women’s 57kg division after besting Malaysia’s Alison Mae Nicolson in the final, 8-1. It was her second UWW Asian Grappling Championships title after first winning the crown in the 2024 edition held in Tagaytay City.

Meanwhile, Nathaniel Nama delivered the country’s lone silver medal in the U17 men’s 58kg division, while Alfredo Manolo Gealogo and Angelo Lucian Salud finished third in the U15 men’s 73kg and U17 men’s 76kg categories, respectively.

As of press time, Alonso Lucas Aguilar is competing against Kazakhstan’s Nurassyl Turuspekov in the gold medal match of the U20 men’s 71kg division.

The Wrestling Association of the Philippines extends its sincere gratitude to the Tiaong, Quezon LGU and Mayor Vincent RJ MEA for giving us the opportunity to present our vision and push for stronger support for the athletes of Tiaong.

We deeply appreciate the openness, efficiency, and willingness of the Tiaong LGU to help build opportunities for aspiring athletes who are only beginning their journeys in sport. Their support creates a pathway for young people to discover discipline, purpose, and the possibility of becoming champions.

Somewhere in Tiaong may be a future national champion, a future leader, or a young athlete waiting for the right opportunity to rise. Through this initiative, every child and every individual willing to train, sacrifice, and put in the work is given a chance to pursue a meaningful path through sports.

This is how champions and communities are built.

The Wrestling Association of the Philippines would also like to individually extend its sincere thanks to:

• Atty. Sergio Eulogio – Municipal Administrator
• John Mathew Daniel – Local Youth Development Officer III
• Renz Julius Landicho – Tourism Officer-Designate
• Michael Louie G. Luna – Tiaong, Quezon WAP Representative

Thank you for believing in the potential of Tiaong’s athletes and in the power of sport to change lives.
