Expanding Our Reach Toward a Safer Sports Community
LOOK: The Philippine Sports Commission, in partnership with Safe Sport Philippines held its first-ever Safe Sport Workshop with LGUs on November 18–19 at Orchid Garden Suites Manila.
Sports units and offices from LGUs across NCR, CALABARZON, Central Luzon, and MIMAROPA participated to strengthen their understanding of Safe Sport and athlete protection.
“I am grateful to our LGU representatives for taking the time to join us today. As Commissioner in charge of Athlete Welfare, my priority is ensuring that every athlete—especially at the grassroots level—trains and competes in a safe and supportive environment. Safe Sport is not just a policy; it is our shared responsibility,” said Commissioner Olivia G. Coo during her opening remarks on Day 1.
Participants took part in discussions and interactive activities highlighting the importance of safeguarding in sports. The workshop supports LGUs in establishing effective reporting systems, crafting stronger safeguarding policies, and forming efficient response mechanism to ensure safe and inclusive environments in local sports programs and activities.
Previously, PSC’s Safe Sport workshops were exclusive to National Sports Associations (NSAs). This time, the agency is expanding the initiative to LGUs to strengthen athlete welfare and safety during training and competitions.
