Manila Kendo Club

Manila Kendo Club This is the official page of the Metro Kendo Club in the Philippines. (Facebook name is still undergoing review)

Metro Kendo Club (Metroken) traces its origins back to the early 1990s, when Japanese expatriates—including the respected Yamanishi-sensei—brought kendo practice to the Philippines. A small, dedicated community formed, bringing together Japanese and Filipino practitioners who shared a passion for the art. By 2014, as the community grew and evolved, key leaders and founding members envisioned a new

direction aligned with their goals and ambitions. From this vision, Metro Kendo Club was born, marking a fresh chapter focused on expanding kendo, fostering development, and building an inclusive, passionate club. Today, Metroken has grown to over 100 active members, practicing at both the Gatorade Hoops Center and Treston International College. The club actively participates in local and international events—from examinations and tournaments to club visits—and proudly operates under the United Kendo Federation of the Philippines (UKFP), affiliated with the International Kendo Federation (FIK). Metro Kendo Club remains committed to cultivating kendo in the Philippines, striving to elevate the practice and the community each day.
