Tarny Perkins, the Director of Tennis at the Perkins Twins Tennis Academy is an ex-touring tennis pro who played on the satellite tour in Europe after graduating from the University of California. Tarny and his Filipina wife Tess have twins sons, Jesse and Christian P
erkins who were undefeated in tennis doubles while in high school in California. Jesse and Christian were labeled by their coach in High School and featured in the news as “the second coming of the Bryan Brothers”. Jesse is right handed and Christian is left handed. They were Grand Prix Doubles Champions in California. They were born in the Philippines but raised in California. Jesse and Christian are also elite basketball players. They are also musicians, entertainers, producers and directors.
Coach Tarny trained Jesse and Christian, along with help from coaches from the University of California at Berkeley, since they were nine years old in Menlo Park, California. Coach Tarny developed the Perkins Model for tennis, which features a combination of faith, keeping things simple, positive reinforcement, mind strength and physical fitness. Interwoven are training elements from NCAA (US college tennis) and the USTA (United States Tennis Association)
Tarny’s first stop on the Satellite tour was Norway where he has relatives who are champions in several sports, including ice skating, ski jumping and motocross. While playing tournaments in the United States, the Perkins family noted that there were great Filipino tennis players there but few in the Philippines. The family felt that training and working within the tennis community in the Philippines, without political interference, was the solution. The goal was, and is to coach young Filipino Talents to become world class tennis players AND world class ambassadors. ELITE training for junior tennis players is subsidized and is non-political. Tarny, Jesse and Christian opened the Perkins Twins Tennis Academy in 2012 at the Edsa Shangri-La. This was the first International training academy in the Philippines that leveraged practical expertise and power tennis training techniques, developed by integrating NCAA training from the US as well as new techniques to meet the needs of the ever changing game of tennis. The Perkins family stopped coaching when the Pandemic hit in the Philippines and at that time we founded a family oriented production company called Perkinspiredflix. Through Perkinspiredflix we produced ‘Kaibigan’ the first feature length film in the Philippines with a Hollywood actor. We also produced ‘Kaibigan the Series’ the first family friendly TV Series for GMA7. Currently, we’re working with Ayala Foundation producing documentaries and also producing commercials. We returned to coaching recently as we were requested to reopen the Academy. Because outdoor-only courts limited our training, we sought indoor courts so we’re training at Parkride in Antipolo AND developing satellite training at Rockwell the Grove, Acropolis and others. For young tennis players, we put an emphasis on respect, the psychology of winning, having fun, and learning the sport. Jesse and Christian are social media and YouTube influencers in the Philippines who have never smoked, never taken drugs, stopped bullying and believe in purity. They are also producers, actors, singers under Warner Records and of course athletes in tennis and basketball. Junior tennis players at ELITE Perkins Twins Tennis Academy grow intellectually and physically to better cope with the heightened demands of a younger generation of tennis players; preparing them to become future tennis champions and leaders of the Philippines. Respect, focus, faith and hard work form the foundation for tennis training with a goal to assist each athlete in achieving success on and off the tennis court. The Elite Perkins Twins Tennis Academy (PTTA) fulfills a goal of the Perkins family to give back to the Philippines. The Perkins family envisions bringing tennis to the forefront of Filipino athletics through radio, television and by results.
