Monfort, MD, in memory of Dr. Roque Monfort, Don Jose Monfort, and Don Pascual Monfort. Dr. Roque was a member of the Philippine Olympic Team and was named in the Roll of International Honor for Outstanding Players who played and won international honors for the Philippines in the Far East, Interport, and Asian Games. Don Jose was an outstanding football player and a member of the Philippine Natio
nal Team for the Far East Games. The first Monfort Cup was launched in 1992, June 6-12, and was participated by the top teams in the country: the Philippine Army Football Club, Philippine Air Force Football Club, Philippine Navy Football Club, and Barotac Nuevo Football Club. The result of the competition brought football to the next level of popularity in the Province of Iloilo. This motivated more teams to join in the succeeding Monfort Cup Tournaments. For eleven (11) years, the program of the Monfort Cup expanded to the youth and collegiate level competitions which attracted teams from Luzon and other provinces in the Visayas. The annual competition let the athletes gain more experience to improve their skills in football. Manong Narsing is a man of vision and does not believe in a short-term program. He developed and introduced a sustainable structured grassroots football program by providing more football activities for children such as football clinics and festivals. His focus were on improvement of football skils, refinement of social values, acquisition of desirable personality traits, and the quality of life that is physically and mentally sound. His love for children cannot be denied.
