Do you remember when we showed you a photo of a Robust Ghost Pipefish?

Well this is exactly the same species!

The robust ghost pipefish uses structural mimicry - Growing skin flaps and filaments -to look exactly like bits of drifting seagrass or debris.

This in combination with gradually adapting it's colours (24-36 hours) makes it almost impossible for predators to see.

The Flamboyant Cuttlefish! Another one of my favorites.

While the Blue-ringed Octopus is famous for its deadliness (venomous), it is less known that this other cephalopod is just as lethal (poisonous).

Unlike most cuttlefish, which rely on camouflage to avoid predators, the flamboyant cuttlefish is not a strong swimmer and instead 'walks' along the seafloor on two of its arms and fins. When threatened, it flashes an intense, pulsating pattern of yellow, maroon, brown, and red to warn predators that it is highly poisonous.

They are primarily found on sandy or muddy bottoms at depths between 3 and 86 meters throughout the Indo-Pacific region.

The Blue Ring Octopus!! 🔵 🛟 🐙

Spotting this master of disguise is a major win on any muck dive. Found throughout the Indo-Pacific, these tiny hunters favor shallow coastal reefs and often hide inside coral rubble or discarded shells.

Those electric rings only pulse when the octopus feels threatened. This high-contrast display ~ known as aposematism ~ warns predators that this soft-bodied creature is one of the ocean's most dangerous inhabitants.

Did you know one golf-ball-sized octopus carries enough tetrodotoxin to paralyze 26 adults? With no known antivenom, it’s a powerful reminder to keep a respectful distance while framing that perfect macro shot.
