Despite their name, porcelain crabs are not true crabs at all, but rather evolutionary cousins of squat lobsters. Their uniquely flattened bodies are perfectly adapted for their environment, allowing them to slip seamlessly into incredibly tight rock crevices or take shelter safely within the stinging tentacles of sea anemones.

Unlike many of their crustacean relatives, they do not actively hunt for prey. Instead, they are efficient filter feeders that rely on specialized, feathery mouthparts to sift plankton directly from the water column. While they possess massive, deceptively large claws, these appendages are primarily used for posturing and territorial disputes rather than capturing food.

โ€‹The name "porcelain" is given because these creatures are highly fragile and rely on an extreme defense mechanism known as autotomy. If a predator manages to grab one of their limbs, the crab will readily drop the trapped appendage to facilitate an escape, eventually regenerating the lost part over the course of future molting cycles.

Night shift on the reef! ๐Ÿ”ฆ

This curious porcupine fish was spotted cruising through the dark. These nocturnal hunters use their massive eyes to seek out crabs and urchins under the moonlight.

Don't let the cute face fool you - if threatened, this little guy turns into an unswallowable, spiky balloon!

Who else loves the thrill of a good night dive? ๐Ÿคฟโœจ

The crystal clear waters of Mantigue are something else...

Looking down at the muck so often makes you forget what else is out there. Every now and then, you have to look up and remember that the ocean has no ceiling.

Isle Dive Camiguin started yesterday, August 12, 2026, as part of the Isle Visit Camiguin 2026 tourism campaign in the province. Several divers from various parts of the Philippines and other countries participated in the event that will continue until August 16. The event was led by the Provincial Tourism Department in collaboration with the Department of Tourism Region 10.

On the first day, the capture of Crown-of-Thorns (COT) starfish was conducted at White Island, where divers captured 378 COT starfish that harm coral reefs in the ocean.

The students and officials in the barangays also went to the Dive and Reef Awareness Seminar as part of the event held at the Camiguin Convention Center.

Today, August 13, the fun dive will be held until August 15, where divers will take photos under the sea to show the beauty of the sea in Camiguin.
