5 WAYS TO TALK TO YOUR TODDLER 5️⃣

Here are 5 EASY techniques to enhance their language development!

🗨️ 1. KEEP TALKING 🗨️

Talk to them during various daily routines: 🍽️ Mealtime ("HOT SOUP?"), 🛁 Bath time ("ang LAMIIIG ng tubig!"), and even 🚗 Car rides ("look, the TRAIN is moving!").

🗣️ 2. COMBINE WORDS + GESTURES 🗣️

ALAM NIYO BA?

Na kapag sinasamahan niyo ng GESTURES/ACTIONS ang SALITA = mas MABILIS maintindihan ni baby yung NARINIG niyang salita?

Sabayan ng actions ang mga salita

👉🏻 ”YES” + thumbs up / pagtungo ng ulo

👉🏻”WALA/ WALA NA” ishake ang kamay kasabay ng “wala na”

👉🏻”DOWN/ UP” Ituro ang daliri pababa or pataas

BUT DO THEY LEARN WORDS FROM IT? 🤔

DR. PATRICIA KUHL, a professor and co-director in the Institute of Learning & Brain Sciences of the University of Washington, asked:

🖥️ “DO INFANTS LEARN FROM A MACHINE?” 🖥️

And the results were:

😲 NO! Babies UNDER ONE do NOT learn WORDS from SCREENS! 😲

Yes, they get WOWED by it, but all they can process are the sounds, colors, and movements (it’s more of a SENSORY EXPERIENCE for them)—NOT THE WORDS.

🥼 She conducted an EXPERIMENT:

EXPERIMENT A: Babies listening to the mom IN-PERSON: teaching basic words like “flower” and “water”.

EXPERIMENT B: Babies listening to the mom teaching the SAME words “flower” and “water” through a TELEVISION.

WHAT WAS THE RESULT?

📝 Later on, the babies were asked to POINT to what they had been taught. The babies of the LIVE TALKING MOMS pointed to the CORRECT PICTURES, while the babies of the VIDEO MOMS did not!

So, what can we do to make them LEARN THE WORDS?

🗣️ TALK TO THEM IN-PERSON!

⭐️ BONUS TIP: USE PARENTESE!

How to do PARENTESE?

Parentese means:
☑️ using correct speech sounds.
☑️ using slow, sing-song voice.
☑️ doing big facial expressions.
☑️ repeating words.

CVC (Consonant-Vowel-Consonant) words are STEPPING STONES in your child's LITERACY JOURNEY.

There are speech sounds that children LEARN EARLIER compared to other sounds?

These are: p, b, m, d, w, h, t, and n.

So magsimula tayo magturo ng CVC words na mas madali din mabigkas ng bata 🙂
