Did You Know? ๐ค
The lowest-scoring NBA game in history happened on November 22, 1950, when the Fort Wayne Pistons defeated the Minneapolis Lakers by a score of just 19-18!
๐ฒ Why was the score so low?
Before the shot clock existed, teams could hold the ball for as long as they wanted. Whenever the Pistons gained the lead, they simply passed the ball around and stalled the game to prevent the Lakers from scoring. The strategy frustrated everyoneโincluding their own fans, who reportedly booed throughout the game!
โฑ๏ธ To prevent teams from stalling and to make the game more exciting, the NBA introduced the 24-second shot clock in 1954. The result? Faster-paced action, more scoring, and the exciting game of basketball we enjoy today.
๐ Imagine watching a full game that ends 19-18!
Would your team survive in the pre-shot-clock era? ๐
