Tiny and full of attitude ⚡
This Thecacera sp. 8 photographed in Anilao, Philippines at Solitude Acacia Resort (Jan/Feb 2026) is one of those small but characterful polycerid nudibranchs that make macro diving here so addictive. With its compact body, contrasting colour patches, and upright rhinophores, it stands out against rubble and reef structure despite its small size.

Tiny but seriously cool 🦞✨
This Hairy Squat Lobster (Lauriea siagiani) spotted in Anilao, Philippines at Solitude Acacia Resort (Jan/Feb 2026) is a macro favourite. Often found tucked into feather stars, its bright colours and fuzzy setae help it blend perfectly with its crinoid host. It usually stays perched among the arms, picking at passing plankton and detritus while relying on camouflage and stillness to avoid predators. Small, shy, and incredibly photogenic — another reminder to slow right down on Anilao dives and check every feather star.

Master of disguise 🦐✨
This tiny Hairy Shrimp (Phycocaris simulans) found in Anilao, Philippines at Solitude Acacia Resort (Jan/Feb 2026) is one of the reef’s ultimate hide-and-seek champions. Covered in fine hair-like setae, it blends perfectly into feather stars, hydroids, and algae — often invisible until you really slow down and look closely. Usually perched on its host and barely moving, it feeds on plankton and detritus drifting past. Only a few millimetres long but a huge macro reward when you finally spot one. Anilao macro magic at its best.

Tiny flame on the reef 🔥
This Tropical Gasflame (Tenellia sibogae) photographed in Anilao, Philippines at Solitude Acacia Resort (Jan/Feb 2026) is a beautiful little aeolid nudibranch. With its slender translucent body and rows of cerata tipped in fiery orange and red, it really does look like a miniature flame drifting over the reef. Usually found on hydroid colonies where it feeds and lays delicate coiled egg ribbons, it also stores stinging cells from its prey in those cerata for defence. Small, delicate, and easy to miss unless you slow right down — classic Anilao macro treasure.

Polka dots on parade 🔴✨
This beautiful Goniobranchus albopunctatus photographed in Anilao, Philippines at Solitude Acacia Resort (Jan/Feb 2026) is a classic Indo-Pacific chromodorid. With its rich reddish-brown mantle covered in neat white spots and a contrasting pale mantle edge, plus bold rhinophores and gill plume, it really stands out against the reef. Usually found cruising slowly over sponge-covered rubble and coral slopes where it feeds on specific sponges and lays those elegant spiral egg ribbons nearby. A small but striking nudibranch and another reminder of why Anilao is macro heaven.

This Thecacera picta — often nicknamed the Pikachu nudibranch — photographed in Anilao, Philippines at Solitude Acacia Resort (Jan/Feb 2026) is always a macro favourite. With its translucent body, bright yellow and orange highlights, blue accents and upright “ear-like” rhinophores, it’s hard not to smile when you find one.

Tiny underwater bunny 🐰🌿
This adorable Rabbit Sapsucking Slug (Costasiella usagi) photographed in Anilao, Philippines at Solitude Acacia Resort (Jan/Feb 2026) is always a macro favourite. Only a few millimetres long, it’s known for those cute ear-like rhinophores and leaf-shaped cerata that make it look like a miniature grazing rabbit. A sacoglossan rather than a true nudibranch, it feeds on algae and stores the algae’s chloroplasts in its body — allowing it to photosynthesise through kleptoplasty. Usually found on patches of green algae in shallow rubble areas, and very easy to miss unless you slow right down and look closely. Anilao macro magic at its finest.

A classic Indo-Pacific beauty 💙
This Chromodoris lochi spotted in Anilao on Jan 26 is always a macro favourite. Known for its electric blue body with darker longitudinal lines and a pale mantle edge, plus those vivid orange rhinophores and gills that really pop on camera. Often found crawling slowly across reef rubble and sponges, feeding on specific sponge species and laying delicate spiral egg ribbons nearby. Small, calm, and absolutely photogenic — a perfect reminder that the best finds on a dive are often the tiniest.
