Crazy night indeed!

The Detroit Pistons have quietly transformed themselves into a serious contender in the Eastern Conference. Thanks to a current five‑game winning streak, they’ve not only accumulated wins but shifted the perception of the franchise. Central to that is guard Cade Cunningham, but the foundation runs deeper.
Cunningham is orchestrating the offense with 9.7 assists per game (2nd only to Jokic) and dominating the scoreboard. Over the last five games, he is averaging 29.8 points, 11.2 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game, including a career‑high 18-assist game in Mexico City against the Dallas Mavericks.

Detroit is currently dominating the boards. They rank 3rd in the league in rebounds per game, anchored by young big man Jalen Duren, who is averaging 24.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 67.7% FG over the last five games.

Isaiah Stewart has emerged as the team’s defensive stalwart, averaging 2.2 blocks per game over the last five games, currently ranking 4th in the league.

The young core is buying in. The losing years are behind; the hunger for wins is front‑and‑centre. The five‑game run isn’t just luck, it’s the payoff of structural growth.
They’re not simply climbing the standings; they’re staking a claim. And with the league watching, Detroit has both the talent and the momentum to carry this surge into something more than a short‑lived ride.

The New Orleans Pelicans are off to a disastrous 0-6 start. The team currently ranks 29th in points per game, last in assists, and 28th in points allowed per game. These are clear indicators that both their offense and defense are underperforming.

The Pelicans’ inability to generate efficient offense has been glaring. Their ball movement is stagnant, leading to their league-worst assist numbers. The offseason acquisition of Jordan Poole, who was expected to bring scoring punch and playmaking, has not translated into wins. Seems CJ McCollum was a better fit.

The absence of Dejounte Murray, who remains sidelined with injury, has also left a massive scoring void that the team has failed to fill.

Role players Trey Murphy III and Herbert Jones have been underwhelming so far. The young duo of Jeremiah Fears and Yves Messi show promise but are clearly still developing and not yet ready to shoulder significant responsibilities.

Defensively, the Pelicans ranks 28th in points allowed per game. The team has failed to contain opposing offenses, often giving up open looks and second-chance points. Their interior defense has been soft, and transition coverage nearly nonexistent.

To be fair, the Pelicans have faced a brutal early schedule. Among their first six opponents were the Spurs, Nuggets, and Thunder — all of whom have surged to the top of the Western Conference standings. They also lost to powerhouse teams like Boston and the Clippers, both of which are playoff-caliber squads.

Still, while this schedule explains part of the rough start, the margins of defeat, including blowouts against Denver and OKC, suggest deeper internal issues.

Amid the chaos, rumors are swirling about head coach Willie Green’s job security. The front office is reportedly growing impatient with the lack of progress, especially given the talent on the roster. If the skid continues, a coaching change may be inevitable.

The Pelicans’ 0-6 record is the product of multiple compounding problems, poor offensive cohesion, defensive lapses, injuries, and a tough early schedule. However, excuses will only go so far. Unless the team finds its identity soon, significant roster or coaching changes could be on the horizon.

It’s no secret that Austin Reaves can put up numbers. Last year, even as the third option in a LeBron James–focused offense, he still managed to average 20.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game.

But this season, Reaves has taken that next big step. With LeBron sidelined and Luka Dončić also missing time, he’s now carrying the Lakers. Through their first five games, he’s averaging 34.2 points, 10.0 assists, and 5.6 rebounds, ranking 3rd in the entire league in scoring.

He’s delivered signature performances early: a career- high 51-point, 11-rebound, 9-assist explosion against the Kings, and a 28-point, 16-assist night versus the Timberwolves capped by a game-winning floater at the buzzer.

Reaves’ evolution from dependable role player to centerpiece shows in his confidence, control, and command of the floor. He’s orchestrating the offense, creating shots for himself and others, and showing a calm under pressure.

What once looked like a feel-good story of an undrafted player finding a role, Austin Reaves is now leading. And if he keeps this up, he might not only redefine his place in the Lakers’ hierarchy but also his place among the league’s rising elite.

The Chicago Bulls have opened the 2025–26 NBA season with a stunning 4-0 record, defying all preseason expectations. They’ve done it without last year’s leading scorer, Coby White, and key big man Zach Collins, both sidelined to start the year.

Yet instead of struggling, the Bulls have found a new, winning identity that is built on pace, teamwork, and elite defense. Coach Billy Donovan’s revamped system now emphasizes quick tempo, ball movement, and equal opportunity scoring.

That selfless approach has transformed the Bulls into one of the best passing teams in the league. They currently rank 2nd in the NBA in assists per game, averaging 30 dimes per night.

Nikola Vučević continues to be the team’s steady anchor inside, averaging 18.3 points and 13.3 rebounds per game. Josh Giddey has been the team’s all-around engine, putting up 19.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 7.8 assists per game.

Tre Jones, last year’s acquisition, has emerged as a true floor general, averaging 12.5 points, 7.5 assists. His playmaking has kept the Bulls’ offense fluid and their defense relentless.

The Bulls’ depth is another reason for their hot start: Ayo Dosunmu has stepped up in Coby White’s absence. Matas Buzelis, the sophomore forward, contributes with energy and athleticism. Kevin Huerter has seamlessly filled the role of perimeter threat.

While their offense has been beautiful to watch, it’s their defense that truly sets them apart. The Bulls rank 6th in the league in opponents’ points per game, holding teams to just 110.7 points on average. Tre Jones’ ball pressure and steals (league- leading 3.0 steals per game) have set the tone, while Vučević controls the paint and cleans the glass.

The Bulls’ undefeated start isn’t just about early momentum. It’s a clear sign of a culture shift. Missing two key players, Chicago has leaned on trust, movement, and defense to become one of the NBA’s most balanced and efficient squads.

Opponents now face a team that can score in transition, share the ball at an elite rate, and lock down defensively. All without a single superstar dominating possessions.

A 4-0 start doesn’t guarantee playoff success, but the formula is promising: top-five assists, top-five defense, and total team buy-in. If the Bulls can sustain this level of effort and chemistry once White and Collins return, they could become one of the most surprising and dangerous teams in the Eastern Conference this season.
