Why Holsters Click??
Kydex and Boltaron Holsters: These hard plastic holsters use friction. The material is molded to create a small ridge or bump around the trigger guard. When you push the gun in, the plastic flexes slightly and then snaps back into place behind the trigger guard, making a sharp click.
Active Retention Holsters:
Duty holsters (like Safariland) use internal mechanical locks or spring-loaded levers. When the gun reaches the bottom, a physical locking mechanism snaps into the ejection port or trigger guard.
When Holsters Don't ClickLight-Bearing Models:
If your pistol has a weapon-mounted light, the holster needs a wider channel for the light to pass through. Retention often grips the light body rather than the trigger guard, which usually creates a dull, muffled sound or no click at all.
Fabric or Leather:
Soft materials absorb the snap, muting the sound. Is the Click Necessary? An audible click is reassuring, but it is not required for safety. If your gun does not fall out when you turn the holster upside down and shake it, your retention is working fine—even without a loud snap.
