Pickleball steps into the big leagues as Manny Pacquiao backs new national tour

Pickleball is taking a major step forward in the Philippines with the launch of the Maharlika Pilipinas Pickleball Tour (MPPT), a new professional league backed by Manny Pacquiao.

Set to debut later this year, the league will feature eight pioneering franchises representing Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao in a weekends only team competition sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board. The inaugural tour will offer a prize pool of at least ₱5 million.

“It’s always been my mission to promote sports and give our athletes a platform to showcase their talents and bring pride and honor to their cities and provinces,” said Pacquiao.

The tour will open with a five leg invitational featuring men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles matches. Each team will have three men’s and three women’s players competing in round robin games on Saturdays, with the playoffs and finals scheduled on Sundays.

According to MPPT Chief Executive Officer Joe Ramos, three teams have already confirmed participation, with the full lineup expected to be finalized this month.
